Just a quick idea...

Offer life membership for punters who live outside of Sydney Metro for an amount like 5k that can be paid off. If you get 200 people thats 1 mill. There are plenty of people (like me) that would do it to try and help save the Sharks in the short term, I only attend 2 or 3 games a year so the benifets would outweigh they cost of forever having a seat at Shark park.

I like that idea Coolum.

Coastal Sharks ? Start playing games on the North Coast, Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour, Grafton, Ballina, Lismore. I know Coffs has quite a nice ground.

Move the Titans & Cows games up there, and maybe the Warriors.

Yup. Why not. I not sure how much it identfies our brand though.

The key point i'm making is the only asset we will have after the sale and bfore the development reaps the intended rewards is the efen name. Other clubs have supporter bases large enough to fill the coffers. We need to attract people that want to be associated with the Brand.
I think of ENDEAVOUR when I think of the Sharkies and I grew up in Western NSW in the 70's. Most of us didn't know how to pronounce Cronulla let alone where it was but I knew it was associated with the Endeavour. I associated that with the spirit of exploration, courage and all that shit. Look' its Fluffy I know but jayzuz we will need to think way off the beaten track if we are going to get through this in my view.

Where in my statement does it mention that BTR does not have passion??
He has passion and ego in truckloads.
Therein lies not the problem.

The problem is his constant need to rub "against the grain."
It is infantile.

I do not understand you cynicism towards the obvious.
Perhaps your misguided logic is either out of
a)your loyalty towards a mate, in which case..fine.
b)your anger towards me for pointing out the moronic thief who steered the club into this position. In which case I take massive issue towards. Are you a previous board member?

I'm not cynical with regards to what you call "obvious".

I'm not a current or previous board member.

I think your point (b) says more about your mind set than my post could ever say.

I simply found it amusing that within the space of a couple of paragraphs you were guilty of spouting the same "non-tangible" ideas you accused another poster of "throw"ing around.

For what it's worth, if your specific claim regarding Pierce and the "bountiful bar tabs" is accurate, then I agree completely with you - that's despicable. Having said that, I'm sure you are able to qualify all those comments especially with the vitriol that preceded the accusations. Otherwise it would've been modded, surely.

And no, I don't expect you to qualify them to me.

Reefy likes to throw random ideas and beliefs without being able to come up with tangible, effective solutions.

He never, ever likes to think along with popular opinion on this forum.

While I like Reefy and enjoy his company, this is in many ways true.

The board had to make a decision about the Sharks future and run with it. They do not have the luxury of being able to endlessly sit around and "blue sky" ideas about saving the club. Whilst they drew up a short list of varied options, they eventually had to make a firm decision that was costed, researched and FUNDED and support it categorically. They knew at all times that they couldnt commit to something, get someway down the road and then turn around and change their minds to something else.

The decision was made with these limiting factors as parenthesis.

- The debt of the club is more than the value of the land. Any wholesale of the assets would not cover the debt, so we would sell the asset, pay some of the debt and we would summarily be homeless. Madness.
- The land was not approved for any kind of development that could turn a profit.
- The previous 10 years worth of work with the local council on developing the land was a dog. It would have lost money and plunged us into more debt. This was decided by objective, external auditors. It took time and money to find this out.
- There was no money for further applications for developments. Wether it is , Woolooware, Sutherland, Dubai, Greenland, Perth or Gosford, the club had to find someone (ie a developer) that would pay the significant application costs themselves.
- Leagues club mergers between us and the Tradies and the Bizzos could not be agreed to. Spider might be able to shed more light on why this didnt work out.
- Wether you like it or not, the club is intrinsically linked to the shire. 90% of the football club and leagues club membership is in the shire. The players live in the shire. The club services shire organisations. The junior league is in the shire. The sharks IS the shire. Considering that the NRL wasnt willing to assist in relocation with funds and or support (Zappia found this out) moving the club out of the shire was decided against.
- When we lost the World Cup Soccer bid it was apparent that the State and Fed govt would not support the development of new stadia.
- The club was not going to buy pubs, child care centres, supermarkets or parking garages because they are not experts or experienced in doing this.
- Any other areas(Sutho again for you Reef) that were zoned for a leagues club, stadium or investment precinct were priced out of our market based on current land value and debt restriction. The bank isnt going to let you sell something for 9 million, when you owe 13.5 million on it.

AND THE BIG ONE:

CASH FLOW WAS NEGATIVE. Anything they did, they needed to get an agreement that there would be some up front cash injection to relieve the immediate pressure. I dont see how you could do this when a wholesale was not an option without getting into bed with a developer.

Please keep these things in mind people.

I assume sharks supporters would support say the perth sharks or central QLD sharks before losing there team forever
Not me - They live or die. No relocation to that extent.

Unfortunately, I'm one of those guys that likes following a team from the area I grew up in and supported all my life. If the Sharks move away, I'm done.

It's that simple.

from readings and reports 'my opinion' (and i stres i have no inner information) as to why it didnt gel was due to -

* the CEO of tradies did foresee great value in aquiring not only the leagues club, but the gaming entitlements

* in aquiring the gaming entitlements, legislation stipulates if you move them to another venue you have to forfeit one in three unless the venue is within a definitive distance - his venues are all within this distance therefore no forfeiture of one in three

* further to that he doesnt have to apply to increase his gaming entitlements, it comes with the amalgamation

* though i believe after the mandatory time proceeding amalgamation, he would have knocked the leagues club down and promoted his other clubs

* there is strong inuendo that the Bizzos (next to Caringbah Tradies) is in serious strife, and most believe it is only a matter of time before the Tradies acquire this club. That be the case the two clubs share a common wall - no brainer as to what occurs then

* the CEO had this long term vision in his mind, but his board could not see the the short term viability when weighted against current and non-current libilities that would be absorbed as a result of amalgamating with sharks leagues club

* in most part the Tradies were preapring to commence their own extensions which is reported to be in the same vacinity of the sharks leagues club current debt - doubling the debt would have required massive due digiligence and the overall picture had the cons outweigh the pros

* there would be more costs involved with amalgamating, especially when there are two clubs already in a group - you have systems integration, upgrade and istallation - massive costs to do this, plus many other small hidden costs to similarise all venues

* finally, i believe amalgamating was a large stroke to his ego, he openly commented for years he was just waiting in the wings

* obvioulsy there would have been more to the due diligence, but this seemingly was the surface issues

as mentioned, only my opinion and i have not had discussions with anyone from either camp directly on that matter, but i believe his mode of thought would have been based along those lines

If anyone thinks that relocation will save us I believe they are wrong.

If the identity(not brand) moves out of the shire it might as well be a whole new franchise. The sharks are the shire.

I don't support relocation, mostly for selfish reasons.

I wouldn't be adverse to running our games out of a nearby, more viable and professionally run stadium however. If in fact it was even viable.

Not any more Ram. It is pretty obvious that Sharks fans are dwindling and other clubs fans, mainly the stain and dogs, are growing.

Austin I couldn't give a rats about how many go to a stain game, simple fact is that from our kids at school there are far more families that support the stain and dogs than support the Sharks and the ratio of Sharks fans to others appears to be shrinking. We live in the Shire as well.
