Why are Gallop and the NRL so ANTI the Central Coast Bears?

i dont believe the sharks will woprk at the CC. they may get the funds but the crowds will be sh*t ala the beagles

i've got a mroe interetsing question, if the sharks cant continue past 09, would a CC team be able to be fast tracked? the nrl said the current rights are based on 16 teams and cronulla going would elave a hole which would need to be filled quickly.

would the rest of the year be enough time to start up a new franchise? what about players? there'd be a lot of sharks on the market but whetehr you'd want them is another thing. would you risk a quick setup of a team at the risk that it's done poor;y and actually causes more damage?

David Gallop is already responsible for putting massive financial pressure on most clubs through an atrocious TV deal which slashed potential revenues the game deserved.

Now - After 10 years of fighting and commitment, the Central Coast Bears are still waiting for this wanker to make the proper and correct call - that the Central Coast Bears will join the NRL competition in 2013.

Gallop has the hide to still whore $8-10 million around as a carrot to other clubs to uproot and move to Gosford - Cronulla are the latest. Yet he won't give the money to the Bears who instigated and helped fund the stadium in the first place.

It stinks of double standards and an agenda. Incredibly unprofessional way to run a business.

Maybe, the only way to resolve this is a class action by Bears members and supporters - make it public, make it ugly - becasue there are many events from 10 years that no-one would want to see dragged out again.

good luck with that idea you f**ken loser..............maybe u and the lawyer can meet in the phone box yet again..........that would be a real meeting of geniused minds

Personally I believe the Bears should be the CC team as they were blatantly ripped off by the NRL.

The problem for the Bears however is their move to the CC will only maintain the status quo in Sydney.

Having successfully ditched the Bears, Gallop wants to get rid of another Sydney club, hence the carrot to relocate. Once that's done, he also hopes that he can shift another two to Adelaide and Perth eventually.

Whoever goes to the CC should make the move full time. That's the only way to get a community to adopt you.

didnt the bears go bankrupt? hardly the NRL's fault. if anything they can blame the weather as their stadium didnt get finished

Don't think so, they invested their money into building the stadium when the NRL changed the criteria to read 'must be profitable' which of course, on paper didn't appear so. In the end, their reward for showing initiative was getting kicked out.

The Beasr were never broke - quite the opposite. Not oly did the Bears put millions into Gosford Stadium, the Bears had $12 million - but it was only put into the club AFTER the Northern Eagles were formed.

Clearly, there were people who didn't want the Bears around.

Seems like the same attitude is prevailing.

Yep, a shameful period in the NRL's short history.

The only hope the Bears have is if the Sharks (or another team) move to either Adelaide, Perth or Qld.

The Bears will create goodwill in Sydney but not much tv money.

If the Sharks moved to Qld (properly) or Perth (if the NRL can get coverage) than it will make money.

Would hate if they moved to Perth, with the Reds doing a lot to establish themselves again.

So as to not upset other teams, there options are limited to Queensland, Adelaide or NZ. That said, any of those options would require the Sharks to work hard to gather support etc, so really they will only move to the Central Coast if push comes to shove, unless the NRL decide it's worth helping the Sharks out with a bit of extra money if they choose an alternate location.

ahh trackhead welcome back, you should check the history of your club before you post

here is a cut and paste directly from the Bears website http://www.northsydneybears.com.au/Bears Den/News/Reports/20081206-bears-deserve-revival.htm

For those of you just joining the program, the North Sydney Bears went broke years ago courtesy of an ill-fated campaign to survive at all costs during the Super League war. At the time, an unsustainable wage structure was hurting all in the game. Clubs were also being threatened with expulsion if they could not satisfy certain criteria which were formulated specifically to reduce the number of teams to a more pay-TV friendly cost structure in the late 1990s.
The Bears bit the bullet and decided to move their operation to the Central Coast. Weather and finance conspired against them and they went broke before they could realise their dream.
They must shake their heads at the thought that within a short period of their painful demise, other clubs were back playing in the NRL with less than secure financial models and at venues well short of the criteria set down in the initial evaluations.
They were then forced into an unhappy marriage with the Manly club, which also had the backside out of its trousers. The Northern Eagles captured nobody's imagination and bumbled along the inevitable path to failure."

and as i keep saying if 12 million dollars was put into the joint venture.......how come Manly were 72 hours fom being broke and out the back door.........and why arnt the Bears still dragging us through the courts

The reality of the situation is that An NRL license is far too valuable a commodity to be wasted on yet another NSW club within driving distance of 10 existing teams.

While sad that a foundation club such as the Bears was mismanaged to bankruptcy, I don't see how they can re-enter.

1. Gallop has stated that the NRL sees Perth, Wellington, the Central Coast and SE-QLD (again) as likely bases for future NRL clubs.

2. He has stated that 18 teams is the highest the NRL can accommodate.

3. He has stated (numerous times) that the NRL believe there are too many Sydney based clubs.

4. There is an $8-$12 million dollar offer for an existing team to relocate to the Central Coast.

5. The available sponsorship and corporate support in the greater Sydney area is strongly contested, the 10 clubs within driving distance won't want yet another competitor, especially given the financial concerns of NSW clubs over the coming years.

6. An additional Central Coast team won't provide the increase in TV revenue that Perth or Wellington can.

7. A relocation to the CC is a far easier sell then to Perth or NZ or QLD. Fans can still get to the stadium relatively easy.

TRUE TRUE - all this Gallop is anti Bears is rubbish. CC will be presented on some level by present NRL clubs not a new one. I have yet to even hear the CC ASK for the Bears to come. They are all either happy with the clubs they get (because they support a variety of NRL Clubs) or they want a totally new entity (which won't happen)

I for one think that the Sharks moving games to CC is not the answer - they should be moving the 5 games to Adelaide where they can probably get the same deal and a better long term future supporter base.

You moron.

Manly were broke.
As you Manly scum kepp saying, you passed the "criteria".

So, why bother doing a JV with Norths?

Answer: Manly was broke - but the deal was done to ditch Norths but get their money. It was well done - but it was a fraud.

As for Gosford, the ARL/NRL said to Norths "NSO is not good enough - you need to relocate - and you'll get a licence". All lies.

Fact is: Manly were broke with a sh*t ground - but they passed the "criteria". Norths had money and 2 great grounds, but they got the knife.

Again - you ignorant Manly scum. You should thank the guys who put the fix in to save broke Manly. But don't rewrite history.

Ronny mate, spoke to Gallop this morning, he said he'll reintroduce the Bears when you stop being such a moaning merkin.

So probably not in your lifetime, sorry bud.
