Why is perth bid so secretive?!

NBL is niche like the A-League. Wildcats have been the best sporting team in Australia over the last 40 years. Their success has drawn strong support from Western Australians.

NSL was more niche than the A-League. Perth Glory were drawing 14k to its games in the dying days of the NSL. Perth were the dominant team in the NSL from 1998 to 2004.

Western Australians love to support a team that is dominant against teams from the east coast. When their teams become ordinary the support dries up.

I cannot see a Perth-based NRL team being anything but a cellar-dweller. Marquee players will prefer to stay on the east coast. Cumins is no Forrest.

How will a team generate third party payments to lure stars to Perth when NRL players have no marketing power the city?

It's not like Brisbane and Sydney where everyone knows of Tedesco, Reynolds, Walsh and Smith.
so no different to anywhere else in Australia then?

Melbourne had no problem getting stars to stay in a city where they are mostly anonymous.

Apparently its only perth where the band wagon effect happens. I mean its not like Penrith werent drawing 11k avg crowds a few seasons ago lol

Reality for any of the expansion hopefuls is attracting players will be one of the biggest challenges. Even Redcliffe are still waiting on that marquee signing and had to largely sign old or fringe first teamers for their team start up. Its a problem NRL wants to bury its head in the sand over.

If you think six juniors is a great result then you need your head checked

how many actual good players will it produce ? Prob zero

rugby league doesn’t need the tiny Perth market

Sydney is close to maximum in terms of producing juniors

then nz png and the pacific islands
You keep saying Perth is a tiny market. Perth already proven in the 90s that it could quickly grow their participation rate to 12,000 players within 5 years of the Reds being announced. Who knows where that number could have been today. That 12,000 would represent 7% of the Participation rate across Australia today. Open your mind and stop being a troll

Perth today isn’t Perth 95

fumble ball is way more dominant

if there was still a big market for league the force would’ve been way more sucesful

Perth won’t ever be producing juniors in large numbers to ever sustain a rugby league team

most league fans in Perth already have fox so a new team won’t add many new viewers either

when we have nz2 or brisbane 3 waiting why would we put Perth ahead of them

You continue to miss the context of these discussions.

People on here said a Perth-based NRL team will be successful because Western Australians display strong levels of support for their clubs. They used the Wildcats and Scorchers to press their case. Both franchises have been dominant in their leagues for 35 and 12 years, respectively.

I countered their claim by pointing out the low level of support for Perth's unsuccessful franchises, such as the Force and Glory. Now you're sooking because I exposed one of the many lies that was propagated by the Perth crew.

Melbourne isn't located on the other side of the country. Storm cheated the salary cap and were propped up by News Ltd for 15-20 years. The club would have struggled to recruit talented juniors and develop them into stars without News Ltd's assistance.

I'll never understand the warped logic of PR and mongoose. They're saying we should ignore more qualified bids from Brisbane because they want us to have teams in cities that don't care for the game. It's a dumb business strategy.

Perth Red is only going along with this insanity because he lives in Perth. He couldn't give a f**k about the game and expects Brisbane and Sydney to prop up his fantasy.

mongoose goes along with it because he's insecure about RL's position in the Australian sports landscape. He's worried about being teased by AwFuL fans about our lack of presence in Adelaide and Perth. He posts on fumbleball sites. It's such a big deal to him that he thinks anyone who advocates for a third Brisbane team is an "AFL troll!"

No one would be pointing out the dreaded "bandwagon rule" if the Perth advocates didn't pretend that Western Australians are more supportive of their teams than everyone else in the country.

The reality for a Perth-based team is it cannot afford to be unsuccessful. It's competing against two juggernaut AwFuL clubs and the Force. You laugh at the latter, but ignore the fact they had twice as many fans as the Reds and more players.

Dolphins can get away with not having marquee players because they're based in the second largest rugby league market in the world. After one year the Dolphins have established themselves as the second largest RL team in the world. Perth won't have this luxury.

Your mate Perth Red has argued, literally ad nauseum for years, that Perth's RL community is 60% smaller now than it was in 1995.
Don't compare Perth's participation rate / rugby league community size today with what was achieved in the peak of the Reds in 1997.

Compare today's participation rate with the early 90s before a commitment to expansion was implemented in 92.

The growth rate that was achieved from when the ARL committed to a team in 92 to 97 was outstanding and shows what is possible.

Perth isn’t as open to rugby league as it was in 95

the turn off due to super league is part of it as is afl being entrenched now more than. 95

a Perth nrl team would be dwarfed by both afl teams
