Why is Steve O'Keefe being overlooked?

O'Keefe is playing in his 11th first class game now. He has a bowling average of 24.83 (alongside a batting average of 51.33). He did a great job in Australia's A game (4/88) and whenever he is picked for NSW he never lets them down.

Yet, Beer, a guy with less experience and with a considerable worse bowling AND batting average (43.31 and 9.20 respectively) has been picked ahead of him. Does Warne really have this much influence over the selectors? Or have the NSW selectors done this young man a disservice by not playing him enough?

By the way, among all the spinners playing for their states, no other spinner has a career average below 40.

Because Warnie talked up Beer and never mentioned SOK, plus our clueless selectors have NFI.......

On a slightly unrelated note I reckon if you don't average 50 in Australian FC Cricket then you shouldn't be near the Test team.

I'm not convinced that the selectors watch enough domestic cricket to actually have any idea what's going on.

Hilditch kept crapping on about Beer being picked because of his knowledge of WA conditions withour realising he had only played 5 games there. They're making sh*t up as they go along.

They plucked Hauritz from obscurity and now that he has come ahead leaps and bounds they decided to dump him. And as you say O'Keefe has taken every opportunity yet they suddenly go to Doherty and Beer ahead of him.

It's an absolute lottery. Phil Hughes is another one - should never have been dropped in England but they wait until he is in horrible form to recall him.

There has been one or two sheild games this year where Okeefe has not been in the NSW side, cause of Smith and Hauritz. So if the question was asked our bumbling selectors will say that he cant made the NSW side

In regards to stats, as one forum member on this site says, they mean nothing. So we must conclude that Beer is the better bowler

Like Nathan Hauritz when he got his recall in 2008?

O'Keefe is actually a good player which goes against the spinner being an absolute nuffy pre-requisite.

he's only played 5 for WA, 3 on the WACA, they got it wrong

SOK maybe overlooked because of his age but he seems to be good enough, he just did better than Hauri against Qld at Blacktown

he must be f**king awful if he's worse than the ones that have been tried

in all seriousness you NSW pricks talk up your players something chronic... having now seen a bit of Hughes and Smith, all I can assume is that you've been smoking some bad sh*t

Hoiw much domestic cricket to you reckon most people on here watch before talking people up? :sarcasm:

If you are saying there, though, that Hauritz should never have been dropped, I agree.

His overall career figures look very good against australian off spinners of years gone by. We've never had finger spinners taking loads of wickets for us, it's always been the wrist spinners.

The selectors are really locked in now to keeping Beer in the squad unless they want to look really stupid.

NSW would demolish NZ by an innings in three days.

Please, when it comes to Australian domestic cricket keep it quiet Kiwi.

The way you have to look at it is imagine if Hughes played for Victoria, he will be get abused big time on here and everyone would want him dropped saying he doesn't have the technique for test cricket.

It's true.

Fortunately Hughes is too good to play for the Victorians.
