Turner & Liddle as back up to halves Hunt/Flanno Junior

Mulheisen back up Hooker

I would suggest we try to sign Sullivan but he would tear a hammy completely off the bone if we got him back.

We had high hopes for Allan and so too him wanting to play out of his skin to try for a longer contract. This injury no one could have predicted and if he didn't do it in the pre-season he might have copped it a game or two into the season. These things happen I'm afraid and while I wish that we don't have any more serious injuries, they will happen to many of our players and many from the other clubs. It is part of this sport.

We have got to take the good with the bad.

I think Lomax to fullback and Sloan as a running 5/8 maybe an option (with Sele and Sua being his bodyguards) and maybe Bird can go back to centres or one of the young guys step up. Then Flanno Jnr can still be our 14.

I know that we haven't been able to attract a decent half, not saying that Kyle isn't decent but I wouldn't put him in the top echelon of halves, I suppose moving Sloan to 5/8th might have merit until such time as we can secure a player who is actually a half. We have got to have players in their rightful positions and not do band aid solutions.

With injury to Allan and Vokeman shown the door, my reasoning is that we originally got Flanno jnr as no 14 and Liddle is not 80 minute player (maximum 50 minutes a game - but very good and in modern game 2 hookers seems to be the norm). So the best starting spine I could come up with was

Lomax (FB), Hunt (Half), Sloan (5/8), Debelin (lock), Liddle (Hooker). with Flanno covering jnr covering half, 5/8 and half.

The alternative is

Sloan (FB), Hunt (Half). Flanno (5/8), Debelin (lock) and Liddle (Hooker). Then Mulheisen or taylor will be our 14 and I think this is weaker than option 1.
