WHY?

 Do you know what the weather was like that day M0J0

It is one thing comparing apples with apples, but another comparing a perfectly sunny Sunday afternoon , to one of the wettest, coldest, days in Newcastle weather history

Oh dear, is that the best you can do?

They drew 5,000 one time against Norths too , in a cyclone if you want to put that into your argument :)

Perhaps we have a higher than normal contingent of bandwagon supporters?
Perhaps Rooster fans only like a contest?
Perhaps we're just doing our hair?

I honestly thing it's because the coffee at the ground is just not up to scratch. Why would we want to go and watch a sure winner* when we could be down at the local cafe sipping an over-priced latte?
Yes, I'm pretty sure that's the main reason.

Anyway, I know I'll be jumping on the bandwagon for the next home game. Looking forward to a big Knights contingent to bolster our poor home ground crowd figures. Tip - park yourself as near to Bay 36 as you can.

*NB - I didn't actually think this was a sure winner and I was a bit nervous going in.

a) No, I didn't know what the weather was like that time.
b) I did know about the Norths game as that has been vehemently defended more than once before.
c) Your question has been answered. Why are you persisting?

Warriors fans are fickle go back 2 years - and look at the stats for games they played in Oz , and you will find they were considerably higher . I think you will find out of the 10079 fans yesterday , at least 9500 would have been Rooster fans....

You want an answer Ed, take your pick! If you dont' like any of those answers Ed, make one up yourself. That way at least it'll be another 2 months, 3 days, 14 hours and 38 minutes till another stupid thread about Rooster fan numbers comes up again

Fuq me some people are either too thick or too ignorant to use their own brains!!

Chook.

Seriously, calm down.

The question was asked in the morning, and I innocently enough was intersted in the actual answer as to what Roosters fans thought was the reason that these crowd fluctuations happened.
and for most of the day, every Roosters fan got defensive and denied that it happened and pointed the finger at other teams and talked about averages instead of just giving their opinion.
It gets frustrating when it takes all day to get a simple answer.

And also, those are home and away averages penellope, not home averages.

The average roosters home crowd so far this year is 14,161,

actual fact they are higher they are 17000 according to WORL stats

And people want us dead?

The #2 team in terms of support within the NRL, H&A
The #1 team in merchandise.

I think they should just be better managed then see them bark! Scarey to think of the support if they behaved themselves.

sorry but you are no longer the No 1 team in merchandise - if fact after your fiasco - no one could sell a jumper...but i agree before hand you were.

rossy, you wanted facts, I gave them to you, you ignored them/changed the subject.
Once again, the subject isn't averages. It's about why Roosters fans only turn up to marquee match ups, do they just come for the event? I don't know, we're trying to find out, but all we run into is "our average is great" I know your average is great, THAT'S NOT THE POINT!!!!!!!!!!

ok, sorry, got a bit out fo control there. I'm just getting frustrated by going in circles.

I'll tell you why - becuase you haven't the foggest what you are talking about - and no one cares a damn what you say...next please.

Well, while none of us can truly profess to know why our crowds fluctuate, one theory I have is that it is due to the fact that overall our supporters are spread throughout Australia.

Here are some stats that show where our suporter base is:

AustraliaWide.gif

Contrary to popular opinion, the Sydney Roosters have one of the largest supporter bases in the NRL. This page is dedicated to Roosters supporters who live all over Australia and also internationally. Here are some interesting points you may not be aware of:

The Sydney Roosters finished sixth overall on 2003 home game attendance when compared to all other NRL clubs.

Our home game attendance rose from an average of 11,000 to 16,000 people per game.

In 2003 the Sydney Roosters finished with the highest media coverage of any other NRL Club even the reining Premiers Penrith.

Over the past five years Roosters Membership and Season Ticket holders have both increased by over 1000%

You really have trouble reading don't you?
or is it selective?
You directly responded to and quoted one of the many posts where it was mentioned that this wasn't about having a good average or not.
I mean, give yourself some credit you're supposed to be a moderator on here and you're just dribbling.
Now if you can get your head around that, you can go through and see that unlike others that constantly attack the Roosters, I wasn't involved in any attacks on the Roosters, I was just trying to get an answer.

Ed, in all honesty no one is having a go at you or your opinion. I think if we could get a complete break down of each game then we would see that most teams have the same type of fluctuations. As to why we only got 10, 078, is anyones guess.

Most supporters I know are average joes who have to budget to get to games and cannot afford either financially or due to family commitments to get to every game. If I lived in Sydney, I don't think I would go to the Warriors game when our next two games are against the Dogs and Newcastle.

Look, perhaps they had a free latte day in Bondi on Sunday !!

What? I missed the free lattes? Will somebody please keep me informed. I'm telling you, the coffee at Aussie (thanks to those wonderful caterers - Eurest) is absolutely disgusting. Surely that has to be keeping the averages (sorry about using averages) down by at least 5000 per game. Maybe if there was a decent latte franchise, then we'd attract the bandwagon latte-set and double our home ground attendances?

Where do I sign the petition?

Anyway, as for the question at hand, I'm working on a theory but it's requiring a bit of research. Hopefully have an answer soon.

Well, you've just named me. I've got two and a half kids, a mortgage and two cars to support and it's tough to find the money to get to a game. Yesterday, it probably cost me around $100 all up at the ground (family ticket plus some food for the starving rugrats plus the bloody flags that they just HAD to have). Sadly, that's the first home game I've been to this year, although I did go to the Knights game at EAS and even ventured up to the trial game at Nelson Bay.
The fact that its a 3 hour return journey to Aussie is a big factor (which is why I'm looking forward to the Cowboys game - otherwise I wouldn't go). I will also be going to the Knights game, but I try to never miss those games as my mate is a HUGE Knights fan and I had to sit in the season ticket holders section at EAS as almost the only Roosters fan in sight.
That'll make 3 home games in a row for me, but that's more to good luck rather than good management on my behalf.

That seals it. Even the most effete Rooster supporter would consider those people white yuppy trash.
