Yes their was a lift but he didn't have a hand between the legs and their was no driving motion. Penalty sufficient.

geniused logic. He didn't need his hand between the legs. He grabbed one leg and tipped him past horizontal. It was only for the fact the SBW braced with his elbow that he didn't land on his head.

Am I the only one who thinks there should be a different standard for the Grand final?
This isnt a regular season game, why do we insist it gets treated like one

The charge should be the same but IMO, points wise, finals games should be a sliding scale and SOO/Internationals should be weighted higher than regular season games

If 100 points = 1 regular season game, you should have to accumulated at least 350 to miss a grandfinal, 300 for an international and 250 for SOO/ finals Ames
So in this case, if Luke's charge plus what ever carry over points warrants 350+ points then he should miss it, if not, let's say he gets 200 point charge, then he plays the GF and misses the first two season games next year

Because the danger of someone having their spine broken doesnt diminish simply because the next game is the GF.

No.

If you're stupid enough to do something that may cause you to miss out on a grand final, you deserve it.

No-one has got away with a spear tackle since the Alex McKinnon injury. It would be a very poor look for the game if Luke got away with this one. I rather think they might hammer him after he received "benefit of the doubt" last time he was charged.

If someone has their spine broken, ill give the hot f**king tip, the dude responsible isnt getting a 1 week suspension. Wake up  He'll get enough points to rub him out of a GF, so long as the GF game points is under about 800

Christ, old mate from the Storm got like 2 months and it wasnt even a bad tackle!

So it's okay to put someone in danger of breaking their neck, with a technique known to break necks, so long as you don't break their neck?

What is it with geniuss around here?

Your suggestion is beyond ridiculous and promotes an "anything goes" situation in a preliminary final.

Of course it's f**king not. No one said that, you idiot. Read the f**king posts

You are mad if you think the NRL grand final should, or ever will be treated the same way that NRL regular season game is. It never has been, it never will be. So why not just make the rules so that the MRC dont need to look like f**king idiots every year when they let guys off on cheaper chargers so they can play a GF.

The idea that the MRC should just dish off the charges and ignore the fact it's the f**king grand final is a absolute pipe dream. And it should be, NRL regular season matches aren't as important as a GF, Semi final, prelim final, International or SOO game, and there for the points should reflect the difference in those games.

So basically Luke is rewarded with a grand final berth for doing something that should be well and truly out of the game?

Nice logic. Reward the merkins.

I don't want to see Luke miss the GF. But the guy is an idiot and only has himself to blame if he does. He should miss it, but the judiciary could do anything.

That would depend on how the MRC charge him. IMO, these lifting tackles should attract huge points. How he is charged is on the MRC. But you know they'll under charge him so he can play the GF, and the reason is they wont believe the action was bad enough to warrant missing a GF. Im advocating a system that allows the MRC to be consistant across the year and if the action is bad enough, the dude will miss the important game anyways.

In this case, in my perfect world, Luke would need 400 points to miss the GF, and he'd still be f**ked because the only way to remove this from the game is to suspend the f**k out of it. A grade 1 lift should be 350 points minimum IMO.

We see this at SOO, and Anzac test time, as well as finals time. This an issue every year. MRC just isnt going to treat those games in the same way they do regular season matches, because they arent the same.

My point about how it should take more points to miss finals and rep games is a general one, not specifically related to Issac Luke.

The very purpose of the points suspension system is to discourage players from dangerous acts that cause serious injury. Your proposal is essentially for the NRL to say "Well the next game is the GF so play that one, but then sit out one or two meaningless games (potentially for a different team) at the start of the next season, but remember - you've been punished so don't do it again".

Hopefully you're now seeing the gaping hole in your logic.

I have absolute no issues with the NRL saying "You did something bad, but not bad enough to miss the biggest game of the year"

You want the NRL to treat the Grand Final the same way it does a round 3 match up, im saying it's never going to happen and IMO never should. It's not the same, its massively different and gets treated as such. I have no problem with that, and i think the NRL should just concede that's how they feel, and make the rules reflect the way it works in real life.

There's no gaping hole in logic. Just a differring of opinions. You think the NRL Grand Final should be treated no differently to any other game, I think it IS different and should be treated as such. Im not advocating an open slather situation, despite your whailing as such, im advocating a points system that matches the way the MRC have and ALWAYS will treat these games

I think it's no different because the danger to players is no different. That's the reason suspensions exist. To change the punishment based on the importance of the next game makes a mockery of any intent to protect players from serious injury.

Luke will miss te grand final if charged because of his poor record of grub behavoour, not because of a single incident. A cleanskin wouldn't miss a week for that tackle.

Luke has no one to blame but himself for being suspended so often, especially considering be got off of a suspension recently which should have been his wake up call I clean up his game

That mockery is what is happening right now. As it does every year.
If the NRL MRC treats rep and finals games differently, and it is CLEAR that they do, why not just make it legislated as such?

Excellent. Let's not fix the system - let's just make it look less embarrassing.

There was no mockery when Cameron Smith missed the GF for trying to open up Thaiday like a pez dispenser.

It's funny, Trent Robinson was really humble in his post-match press conference (as he always is), the only thing he was upset about was the Luke spear tackle. He seems to think the tackle hurt SBW's shoulder and rendered him less effective.

I personally think the lifting rule has gone overboard but if they want to apply it consistently then Luke should miss a week.

f**king moronic that a player should miss a grand final for that petty shit, but those are the rules theyve brought it.

I suspect $ will win in the end though and he will get off. There was nothing in it and he was pulling out as soon as gravity took over, but rules are rules, you're not supposed to do that anymore.

This.

With all the wet lettuce leaf penalties that have been handed out since the NRL vowed to crack down on lifting tackles since the McLean/McKinnon tackle I find it a f**king joke. Someone might as well go up to Alex McKinnon and hock a loogie in his face because the that would be the equivelant of Luke getting off.

You cant fix this system. You are living in a fantasy land if you think you can.
It's not making it less embarrassing, it's making the rules accurately reflect how the situation actually plays out.
