William Hopoate - most overrated player ever

His uncle Albert Hopoate was the most sought after player coming out of the juniors, signs by the Rooters, but went on a 2 years mission. Tried to make a comeback, never played above reserve grade, then just decided he would never get back what he had and left the game

That could be how dangerous missing 2 years of development at around 18/20 is, maybe Hoppa will.never get "it" back

A strong valid point of view Delboy.

How many have come back and gone on to do great things?

I can't think of any off the top of my head.

Correct. All reported salaries of Parra players are grossly over stated. However all reported salaries of other teams are complete fact.

I don't believe that either.
I'm sure the media get it right occasionally, but most of the time they are just throwing darts at a board.

Hoperate is still the best option we have, not a fan of his salary, but we have no other option.

And Morgan is not an option, the prick has to go!

Has there ever been a more overrated, overpaid player? We have been paying this guy over $800k per season. Seward the biggest and most useless f**kwit since Osborne allegedly agreed to give him a similar contract before being boned. I hope Ando does his job and does not relent. Now I'm hoping Hopoate leaves.

People like Ifreak defended us for not paying overs for a fullback like 800k for RTS

Hypothetically - what if we offered RTS $1,000,000 a year and he laughed and said, "I don't want to ruin my career by playing for you!"?

He wanted to go back to New Zealand anyway, but it's possible we have been offering the James Roberts', the Tim Simona's, etc. deals, but they've said no.

Then we need to get people in who can make them say yes

Not people who offer Hopoate 750 after years of mediocrity to save their own positions when they can't sign anyone else

That's what is happening

And the fans make every excuse in the book for them time after time.

We are making up the numbers for other clubs to go around

Totally agree Avenger he is hopeless he has no speed anymore. He was a great player for Manly but 2 years off has hurt him. What's he really worth a season? 300 350k. Does not seem any other club is interested in his services.

Spot on, we had a guy like Seward doing the negotiations. no wonder players managers took us for a ride he looked like he never went through a day of school without having his lunch money pinched.

I wonder why he is manager is digging his heels in? Reason is he has a winning super Seward lottery ticket and we now don't want to pay up.

I just don't think it's as easy as you seem to think it is.

At the moment, the only way for us to sign quality is to pay overs - and Arthur rightfully will only do so for particular players.

I agree that things need to change, mate - but I'm afraid it's not as simple as bringing in new staff to help us land quality players.

There is a perceived stink in the club, from the top all the way down. No player agent will recommend us to his client unless we pay huge overs.

He was decent. He is shit now. I hope he departs.

I dare say with a signed agreement if we don't honour it Hoppa and his Manager will just take the matter to court.

After all, he didn't come to Parra because they wanted to play for Parra, he came because Parra was offering the most money.

Funny because just this year the club told us we don't pay overs for anyone:

How anyone from the club can pretend they didn't know what Seward was up to when he was spruiking to the media every five minutes is beyond me.

Gronk says he went rogue: how could the board not have known what these offers entailed - or inquired?

It's all bullshit. We aren't being told the truth.

Well in the corporate world "going rogue" is all about doing stuff without others knowing about it. That's what going rogue is all about. Think about it.

Yes, when it is realized that someone has gone rogue, questions are always asked like how did it happen. Fair enough too.

In the meantime, management are left to mop up, rectify the problem and make sure it never happens again.

How do we know Hoppa has a signed anything? Cause it was written in the Telegraph?

I was under the impression that Seward had told him he was going to extend him, but they never signed anything, no papers drawn up yet.

Controversial opinion here, be ready, I actually don't mind if he does get re-signed, yes he's not had a season so far, but to be fair, the first half of the season he got shifted around, which can put a player off, he was never the second coming he was being talked up to be, and thus every seems to expect him to be. But he's a good player, albeit overpaid at the moment, but I'm sure that'll be sorted (hopefully).

I won't be upset if he's in the team next year, he's not the only player in the team that's having a bad season, most of the team is.

besides, we should keep him around, then we can blame him every time we lose, that has value, right?
