I now live over here in Dee Why in the heart of Sea Eagles terriotry and i just got a copy of the Manly Daily and they are having a HUGE cry about Hoppa going to Parra.

They have even gone to the length of photo shopping Hoppa's head on to Hayne's Body so it looks like Hoppa is running around on in Eels Jersey, Crying about the Eels spending 1.7 MILLION DOLLARS over 2 years.

It gets better they also address it on the back page of the paper, Having Noel Cleal having a bigger cry about it.

Then on Page 4 showing Hoppa with the trophy on GF day, And then crying about him leaving.

I laughed my ass off.

I work in DEE WHY also and you couldnt wipe the smile off my face today.

That is gold!!!!

Gotta say Des Hasler looks a bit better every article I read on this.

Never says a bad word about Hoppa, never refers to him as a money grabber, seems to want the best for him.

Can we please have Des as Origin coach?!?!

yeah according to disgruntled ex-clubs we have Sandow on $550,000 a year and Hoppa on $850,000 a year. Add Hayne at $500,000 a year and thats $1.9mil for 3 players.
Doubt that is correct, the club would know what they are doing. Just ask Ray Hadley.

If it becomes hard to fit anyone else in, we can just cheat the cap, get busted like Melbourne, and then adjust everyone's salary anyway.

Who cares what the salary cap numbers are? You can be sure we'll still be chasing whatever we want/need when the time is right!

Don't forget by the time WHoppa returns from his mission, there should be a new TV deal in place and in theory a bigger slice of the pie for team Salary caps.

It's because he won't be there to coach him anyway. I guess he's hoping that if he wishes Hopoate all the best that everyone will wish him all the best at Canterbury. It's poor form for any coach to have a dig at a player for leaving anyway. Hopoate not only has a right to choose but also a right to change his mind. Now that he has made the right choice I really hope that he exercises his right to change his mind. ;-)
Des would be a superb choice as Origin coach IMO !

A comment on that article:
William Hopoate's playing future needs to be immediately clarified. Parramatta would always pretend that they had the high moral ground in rugby league and self righteously criticised Manly in the past for buying players. Well, that is all they do now days - buy players from Souths, Cowboys, St George, etc. They are just another group of hypocrites.

:lol::lol::lol:
Comparing the amount of players we buy with Manly, and one of the players he is alluding to is an Eels junior anyway.

Hoppa's $1.7m: Is he really worth more than Lockyer?
4 Oct 11 @ 09:00pm by Jon Geddes

SEA Eagles teenage winger sensation Will Hopoate is set to become the highest paid player in the NRL with a deal believed to be worth $1.7 million to join Parramatta when he returns to the game after his two years of missionary work.

Sources have told the Manly Daily that staggering figure is what Hopoate will earn after he agreed to a two-year deal from the cashed-up Eels.

“It is serious coin with a lot of third party included elements involved in that,” the insider revealed.

And Manly simply could not match that amount.

The figure would put Hopoate ahead of Cowboys star Johnathan Thurston who earns $750,000 a year and Broncos legend Darren Lockyer who reportedly had a total annual salary of $700,000.

Hopoate’s deal is also worth more than the $1.8 million three-year contract that Greg Inglis has with South Sydney.

Rabbbitohs halfback Chris Sandow recently with the Eels on a deal worth $2 million over four years.

The news that Hopoate won’t be going back to the Sea Eagles once he completes his commitments with the Mormon Church in 2014 puts a real dampener on the celebrations following Manly’s sensational grand final win over Parramatta. “We would have loved to have kept him and we are disappointed,” said Sea Eagles coach Des Hasler.

“Obviously it was always going to be a very difficult decision for Will to make.

“And I have no doubt the decision was based on what was best for Will and his immediate family on the back of what has been an outstanding year for Will with the State of Origin selection and winning a grand final,” Hasler said.

LMAO why didn't anyone mention we made the GF from 14th place this season. Quality journalism...
