The Kay Brothers is a bit of a beast. Old school, loads of oak but well integrated, fat fruit. Love it

Just walked in to work...Wynns Black Label Cab 18.70. Are you kidding me?

I recognised it as soon as I saw the label, used to get it when it was about $18 years ago but stopped buying it when it got too expensive.

Happy fathers day to me.

Macro Vintners rep gave me like a dozen samples...cracked a Claymore Dark Side of the Moon shiraz on his recommendation. With trepidation, I might add...It's a Clare shiraz and it's widely accepted (by me!) that Clare shiraz is just awful. This one won't win me over...it's nice enough (one of the better mainstream Clare's I've had in a long time) but suffers from the typical Clare issue, ie basically being a fruit bomb that's insipid in terms of tannin and structure. Doubt I'll get through more than a glass or two. Oh well, could be worse...could be Taylors!!

The gorgeous Mrs Johns purchased 2 x bottles of St Halletts Gamekeeper Shiraz today before I finished work, lots of plum and cherry. Hints of dark chocolate with a subtle yet noticeable hint of vanilla. Absolute cracker for about $12. Thoroughly enjoyed it, and will be getting a few more.

I am a red drinker only (85% of the time shiraz).

However I have given the beautiful bride an undertaking to sample some whites coming into the warmer months. Will be interesting, considering as soon as I smell white wine it takes me back to Townsville (dealing with the "locals" 98% of everyday I was at work) in an instant.
