This has opened up a bit more...so Imma put on my work/nerd hat. Carpenito Brunello 2008 btw.
It's a bit young, being a 2008. Even though it's only a $40 wine, Brunello is generally at it's best later than 6 years, and it shows. Very closed at the moment, not allowing the fruit to come through. Even though 2008 was a more easy drinking vintage in Montalcino, quite a few of the wines I've had have lacked fruit, so I'm not entirely surprised although it's still a very young wine for the style. Still, you get the sour cherry character, some brambly, earthy flavours, nice acidity, good balance. It's just a bit thin...
