That's on the cards. Started with the Brunello anyway. It's a bit flat...maybe it'll open up. But I did run this glass through the Vinturi twice.

This has opened up a bit more...so Imma put on my work/nerd hat. Carpenito Brunello 2008 btw.

It's a bit young, being a 2008. Even though it's only a $40 wine, Brunello is generally at it's best later than 6 years, and it shows. Very closed at the moment, not allowing the fruit to come through. Even though 2008 was a more easy drinking vintage in Montalcino, quite a few of the wines I've had have lacked fruit, so I'm not entirely surprised although it's still a very young wine for the style. Still, you get the sour cherry character, some brambly, earthy flavours, nice acidity, good balance. It's just a bit thin...

Bonarda is an interesting grape. Also called douce noir, originally from Savoy. Like a more floral and perfumed, slightly lighter Malbec.

Kilikanoon Alliance Crozes-Hermitage 2007. 100% Syrah (Shiraz for noobs), Kilikanoon partnered with Cave de Tain for this wine. Very approachable wine, main characteristics are leather, dark cherry, and a slight earthy/herbatious palate. Drinking at its peak now, would only want to leave it in bottle for another 12 months, 18 tops.

McWilliams Appellation Series Canberra Syrah (HI DREW!!!)

Cool climate wine, far more about finesse than bold flavours like most Australian Shiraz (hence the Syrah label, bit of a wank really). No spice whatsoever, reminds me a lot of my review above of the Crozes-Hermitage Syrah. Dark chocolate, blueberry, and floral flavours primmarily, with a slight vanilla finish which is quite interesting. Tastes somewhat lifted too, though I doubt Viognier was used in this wine.

Good wine, so you get to keep your job for now Drew...

I'm a sucker for the weird stuff. Was browsing for beers at Plonk but a bottle of red caught my eye. Between Five Bells H-Cote Red. Negroamaro, Nero D'Avola, Riesling and Shiraz. I reckon it's great, but like I said I love the weird stuff and it's certainly a bit of that. Quite acidic, I suppose from the Riesling, and medium bodied. It's pretty earthy and rustic as Nero and Negro tend to be, not a tonne of fruit and the fruit goes from cherry almost into red apples. Definitely interesting.
