Pending guest choice, I will be having one of '07 Cirillo Grenache (Not sure if I should be using it), '13 McWilliams Appellation Syrah (Canberra) or '13 Dorrien Bin 1A Yarra Valley Pinot Noir.

Found a Teusner 'The Dog Strangler' Mataro at the local, and a Les Courtilles Cotes du Rhone. Both '12's.

So tempted to shelf the other three and crack one of these two.

And yay for finding a new Vac-u-pump.

I find them very useful. Good if you want half a bottle and know you'll drink the rest in the next day or so. The wine will still oxidise a little, but not like it would if it was just left on its own.

A very good use of $15.

Musella Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore 2010. Interesting wine I picked up a while back on clearance from LiquorLand Warehouse Sans Souci, and since I'm having pasta tonight going 100% Italian seemed like a good idea.

My friend Wikipedia tells me the grape varieties used are Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara. I have very little experience with these varieties. Initially I thought this wine reminded me of WA Cabernet, but as it opens I think it is more like a McLaren Vale Grenache. Very bright and vibrant with delicate tannins. Classic European table wine.

Capel Vale Cellar Exclusive Malbec Petit Verdot Cabernet Sauvignon 2011. (40/40/20 blend)

Picked up a cheap case of this on Vinomofo, had some positive responses from the usual wine reviewers so why not (and I'm a big fan of the 3 grapes in the blend, though Cabernet from WA not so much). The main player in this for me is the Petit Verdot, I think this grape has helped the wine become something akin to a classic Bordeaux than what the other two would have been if left alone. Ready to drink now, with plenty of lively fruit mixed in with cedar and leather notes. The Cabernet is there more to round off the drink than to provide any structure. Very happy to have picked this one up.

Fowles Stone Dwellers Riesling. Strathbogie, Victoria. Ripper riesling, citrus, lychee, honeysuckle, flint, chalky acid. Ever so slightly off dry.

So of course, Coles have dropped it from range. Can't have good wine in the store!

Mate they aren't making room for anything. 4500 wine SKUs is going down to 1500. I have 54 premium rieslings in store. 42 of them are deleted.

Classic Coles...

Got to make room for a few more BOB's of Marlborough Sauv Blanc...

Marl Sauv Blanc is still the biggest varietal in Aus.

Does not compute. How can you have the biggest variety of your chain not have variety?!

But no-one drinks riesling...

:sarcasm:

2005 Chablis, 2010 Shingleback D-Block, Veuv Cliquot, and something from the Napa Valley that was 2009 with 100 Parker points.

By golly we know how to party...

Costco trip today lead to a few purchases of cheapies to try and stave off any temptation from the good stuff in my collection. Kirkland Mendoza Malbec tonight. Really handy for $11, big bold malbec with violets and spice. If I was nitpicking I would say that it's a bit over extracted and could do with a bit more tannin but for $11 who gives a toss?
