Have to say that I think the Evans and Tate Metricup Road Cab Merlot (2010) is by far the best Cab Merlot I have ever had.

I have had a quiet a few from Margret River but this is bay far the best.

Grab it from Dans old and rare? It is cracking wine, I agree.

Had a few good 'uns lately. Black Wattle Mt Benson Cab, '10; superb. Dolan Riflemans Riesling, '13, Rothbury Black Label Sem, '15, Woods Crampton Mataro, '13.

Cracking the Vickery Eden Riesling, '15 tonight.

Mt Langi Ghiran "The Mast" Shiraz 2013. Heaps of flavour, lots of red fruit with a lick of leather. A seriously good drink.

Red Claw Heathcote Shiraz 2008. Nice drink, somewhat simple however. Rather herbal, maybe 1-2 years too late.

They had a bin full of "Wine at its Prime" and it was

and my wife calls it Eddie Murphys, not DM

Tbh I've always found the Metricup Road range reasonably insipid... But it's all so subjective

What are we drinking at Xmas? Taking a sneaky dozen bottles up for family weekend on the Central Coast....

If this wet weather keeps up, a metaphorical tonne of red. I am eyeing off a BDR Cabernet, Dead Arm Shiraz, and perhaps a Mt Difficulty Pinot Noir.

Thinking of cracking a Penfolds 1990 Bin 90A tonight since work is over and I can begin to enjoy my new place.

Hewitson 'Baby Bush' Mouvedre, '12.

Gosh I love it... Cherry, blackcurrant, bit of blueberry, slight vanilla from the oak, long finish...

EDIT: And pepper, gosh, the pepper... /love

Koonara "Bay of Apostles" Mt Gambier & Geelong Pinot Noir 2010. This tastes more like a strong Sangiovese than any Pinot Noir I have ever had. Sour cherry, heaps of leather, and unsweetened dark chocolate. As a table red it is okay. As a Pinot Noir it is pretty bloody ordinary.

Redbank "Sally's Paddock" Red Blend 1999. A blend of Cab Sauv, Shiraz, Cab Franc, and Merlot. Any tannin in this wine is all gone, smooth as silk, but still with plenty of forward red fruit. Wouldn't want any longer in the bottle.

d'Arenberg Dead Arm Shiraz 2005. Much, much better. What aged McLaren Vale Shiraz should taste like. A good lick of tannin, leather + dried herbs, and heaps of plum & dark cherry. Finish with cigar box.

I'm an unabashed fan of d'Arenberg, this just reinforces it.

Had a 2008 Zeppelin 'Ferdinand' BV shiraz. Big pepper and spice up front, then jam, mocha and the hint of vanilla at the back. Long finish.

Made by Kym Teusner. He really is an excellent winemaker.
