2013 Coldstream Hills The Hills Chardonnay. Really lean. Very Maconnais, which I like. Slate, citrus, quite sharply acidic, very little oak. Not shabby at all

2013 Some Young Punks A Catch In Time Chardonnay. Interesting to have them side by side. This is more opulent, but from the wild ferment and the lees contact rather than oak. Still very lean on the finish. Probably the better wine of the two

We get a 6 monthly order from Coldstream Hills after we joined their Amphitheatre Club when we were down in the Yarra Valley earlier this year. Some of their reserve & single vineyard wines are pretty bloody nice. Coldstream ranked up there with Philip Shaw @ Orange as the vineyards we enjoyed the most.

Yet to try and SYP, but hear nothing but good things.

Seafood night with scallops, prawns and sweetlip

To accompany we have Rhythm Stick Red Robin Reisling 2012, Zeme Estate Cab Sav 2010 and a Bathazar Marananga Shiraz 2010 for back up

Tasted both they were very bloody good.

I am not normally a Riesling drinker but it was dry rather than sweet and ideal to have with seafood.

Good Food & Wine show this weekend, or as the couple we have been going with for 8 years call it, The Chew'n'Spew.

It's a brilliant day, opens @ 9am, and you spend the day walking around chatting to reps and/or the winemakers (rarely) of each winery sampling their product.

The name chew'n'spew results from our trip 4 years ago. We ended up having a chat to Robert Rose (played for the Townsville Crocs in NBL). We were in the Barossa valley section enjoying a red & he was telling us about his new venture, opening a wine bar in Townsville. Literally 30 seconds later we hear this horendous sound. There was a woman standing over a large spitoon (made out of an old wine barrel) she was hurling projectile into that spitoon at a guess about 250km/h. She was really having a crack, while her friend, embarrassingly, holding her hair back wishing the floor would swallow her up. Rose then turns to us & says, it's all net baby.

The hurler then stands up, albeit not very well, wipes her lips and staggers away.

The good old chew'n'spew, never disappoints. Roll on Friday !!

If anyone ever considers going, always go on the 1st day (usually a Friday).

Riversdale Coal River Cygnus Riesling, '13. Beautiful lime, lemon and apple all mixed together. The hint of peach and because its a couple of years old, the beginning of the petrol 'smell' and taste. Long and gorgeous. Glad I have two more bottles of this.

I met Robert at a few trade shows in Brisbane a number of years ago. He had opened his cafe / wine bar by then, great guy. Have a similar story with Rose too, but at the Samuel Smith & Son show and featuring a guy almost knocking himself out after headbutting the wall while taking a piss.

Really looking forward to enjoying a bottle when it cools down a touch.

Clonakilla Viognier Noveau 2014. Big apricot hit up front, but the lean finish helps balance that out. Hints of lemon rind. Good summer wine, which is going to be handy over the next few days.

Ravensworth Gamay Noir 2015. Having driven all over Canberra (well Ainslie, Braddon, then Fyshwick), I now have a couple of bottles of Bazal's wet dream (which also includes him scoring a ton while Semi Radradra leads five clones of himself in a dance routine while dressed as the Eels cheer squad).

Light colour, juicy bright red fruit, medium body, with a delicate lingering finish. A very slight sour cherry note as well, but it compliments the drink well. Wish I had grabbed one of their other wines now too.

2012 Mount Majura Graciano. Quite light body, very fragrant. Quite a kick of white pepper and dried herbs, but very bright and fresh, loads of sour cherry and redcurrant. Wicked stuff, would age just nicely but then it'd lose the very cool bright freshness it has.

Dandelion Lionheart of the Barossa Shiraz

One of my absolute favourite reds, given to me by my favourite rep :) This was opened yesterday, got too hot in her car, she left the remainder with me, I put it in the fridge, took it out at about 5pm and started drinking it about 7. So it's been well looked after :sarcasm:

Just buy some when you see it. Do it. It's f**king fantastic, it always is, Elena Brooks is a superstar and you should all drink her wines every week.

She is a great winemaker. We have an exclusive Pinot with her and its a top seller. Love their labels as well.

Both their rieslings are good too IMHO. I have the Heirloom and Dandelion sitting in my rack. Part of me wants to hold on to them, part of me wants to crack them.
