Wing in Parramatta's sights

look wing denied talking to Souths when he was at the roosters and then was wearing a Souths jersey with Russell Crowe 2 days later.
Souths have really breached Wings contract as the 3rd party payment wasn't made and may not have a say in if Wing goes or not.

You really should check your facts before making sweeping statements.

Souths are also saying that it was Wing that breached the contract. If Wing does try and leave I think it could be a very long and drawn out process.

Could end up in court then if he really does want to leave.
But Wing is always linked to another club next week it will be Brisbane, the week after that the Cowboys. Where are the media getting their stories from? is Wing or his manager leaking stuff to the media to try to keep Wings name in the headlines or what is doing?

Without reading all the million or so posts on this subject I ask the following questions -

1. Is WING this HUGE signing that we were talking about ???
2. Why would we want anything to do with someone who cannot see a contract out at any club ???
3. And what happens if the third party deal he comes to parra on , falls apart - does he then spit the dummy and want out as well ?

Apparently.

However.

2. Why would we want anything to do with someone who cannot see a contract out at any club ???

It is an interesting situation. I can see some value in him coming to the club however there does seem to be a lot of baggae he brings. I'm not sure we need players with baggage anymore.

1 - I don't think so. I don't have any of this supposed "inside information" I just think it's somebody else.
2 - I don't think this is true. Did he not see out at least 3 contracts with the Roosters. I'm pretty sure he was off contract when he signed with Souths. I don't know the details of what is happening at the moment at Souths but I get the impression that it is the club trying to push rather than him looking to jump.

Well put it this way. If you signed a contract for a guarnteed amount, and then all the sudden your told that you wont be receiving $150,000 of that contract, im sure you would be unhappy and looking for a new club aswell.

FTR, here is where it stands with Wing and his contract with Souths.

1. He signed a deal with the club.

2. Off the back of his association with Souths he was offered a 3rd party deal with McGrath Real Estate. In exchange for 8 or so hours per week of his time, doing PR for them, McGrath were to pay him $50k per year.

3. Wing gets injured early last year and due to his injury and an extensive rehab program he is unable to complete his 8 hour per week commitment.

- Wing is claiming that Souths should re-imburse him the lost money as he was unable to complete his end of the bargain due to his injury.

- Due to this being an outside (3rd party) agreement, South Sydney claim that they have no liability, nor duty of care to ensure that Wing is available to complete it. As it is third party, it is negotiated between, Wing, his manager and McGrath and South's have no involvement.

South's have tried to find him more money, but cannot do so and keep under the cap. So that is where its at in a nutshell.

His contract with South's has nothing to do with these third party deals that he himself has organised and just because one of these has fallen over and he is $50k worse off per year, doesn't mean that he automatically has an out to his playing contract.

As much as I'd like to see Wing at the club in terms of his utility value I think the other option of Masada Iosefa would be a much better and longer term buy in terms of value.

I agree Colonel. Iosefa is a great little player. His quick scoots from dummy half are always getting oposition team on the wrong foot for the Panthers. He would be a great pickup for us at a fraction of what C Wing would demand. But is he available, off contract I mean?

the article says union want him as well. if true, given the $$$ that he missed out from 3rd party sponsors, i wouldn't be surprised to see him go for union money.

I say Souths deserve to ensure that he honours his contract !

The rest of your post sounds about right but this particular statement is absolute garbage and you know it.

A third party deal is a third party deal. By their very nature, a club is not allowed to be a part of these as they are seperate to the cap. Sure, McGrath would have approached him due to his involvement with the club but the club is not allowed to intervene, nor should they have to uphold a 3rd party agreement that has fallen over.

Wing would argue that if he doesn't get injured, he upholds his side of the bargain.

Souths would argue that he is contracted to South's to play Football, first and foremost. 3rd party deals are a bonus.

From what I've read in the above post by DKOR Wing should be honouring his contract. Poor form if he's using the 3rd party agreement as an escape clause. I recon he wants out because he is not happy at the bunnies and how they are using him as a utility player. He's preferred position is no. 6 & 7 not 14. Simple

I think he is just not in a happy place full stop. Since he joined us, he had a season out with injury, he and his long term missus split up, he had a third party deal go sour, his car was written off in an accident and a property deal he was involved with overseas fell over in the credit crunch. Nothing you can directly attribute to South's but just a lot of bad luck really.

I believe you are right though. He is using this 3rd party thing as an out to try and secure more cash. His manager having him linked to several different clubs + England + Union in the media is just a ploy to try and force the issue and squeeze some more money out of Souths.

You can virtually guarantee that if he is released, it won't be to play in Australia. If he does actually sign anything with Parramatta or any other NRL club, it will go to court.

Clubs organise third party deals for players all the time. It's ridiculous to suggest otherwise

Of course they do - BUT if the club is found out to have organised such deals, the amount of the deal goes onto the salary cap.

So if Souths try and 'reimburse' Wing this 'lost 50k' it will count against their cap. Not much they can do on that front really...
