FTR, here is where it stands with Wing and his contract with Souths.
1. He signed a deal with the club.
2. Off the back of his association with Souths he was offered a 3rd party deal with McGrath Real Estate. In exchange for 8 or so hours per week of his time, doing PR for them, McGrath were to pay him $50k per year.
3. Wing gets injured early last year and due to his injury and an extensive rehab program he is unable to complete his 8 hour per week commitment.
- Wing is claiming that Souths should re-imburse him the lost money as he was unable to complete his end of the bargain due to his injury.
- Due to this being an outside (3rd party) agreement, South Sydney claim that they have no liability, nor duty of care to ensure that Wing is available to complete it. As it is third party, it is negotiated between, Wing, his manager and McGrath and South's have no involvement.
South's have tried to find him more money, but cannot do so and keep under the cap. So that is where its at in a nutshell.
His contract with South's has nothing to do with these third party deals that he himself has organised and just because one of these has fallen over and he is $50k worse off per year, doesn't mean that he automatically has an out to his playing contract.
