Wing in Parramatta's sights

Of course they do - BUT if the club is found out to have organised such deals, the amount of the deal goes onto the salary cap.

So if Souths try and 'reimburse' Wing this 'lost 50k' it will count against their cap. Not much they can do on that front really...

You are exactly right. We are all meant to believe that these business' contact players because of their association with the club. Fact of the matter is that they are probably tipped into the deal by the club. The 3rd party deal system is a joke.

I think he is just not in a happy place full stop. Since he joined us, he had a season out with injury, he and his long term missus split up, he had a third party deal go sour, his car was written off in an accident and a property deal he was involved with overseas fell over in the credit crunch. Nothing you can directly attribute to South's but just a lot of bad luck really.

I believe you are right though. He is using this 3rd party thing as an out to try and secure more cash. His manager having him linked to several different clubs + England + Union in the media is just a ploy to try and force the issue and squeeze some more money out of Souths.

You can virtually guarantee that if he is released, it won't be to play in Australia. If he does actually sign anything with Parramatta or any other NRL club, it will go to court.

To be honest I just can't see us signing him. I agree with your summation of his position, it appears he would only leave for money reasons. If that's the case I just don't see us being a viable option for him.

Super footballer though, would love to have him in our team, just don't see it happening.

That's 100% true. I can kind of see his side of the argument though. He signed for Souths based on that being part of the deal. He was unavailable to fulfill his part of the deal through no fault of his own. He would probably say it was up to Souths to make sure he was available to fulfill his duties to the third party.

Not saying anyone is right or wrong, just that I can see both sides of it.

I'm kind of getting to the point where I wish someone else would sign him. There have been rumours about him linking with everyone under the sun all year. Not happy this, more money that. Can't help but be a destabilising influence at Souths imo.

Hate to see him playing against Souths again so the preference would be to see him go to ESL but if he had to end up in the NRL, Parra wouldn't be as bad as the Roosters or Dragons imo.

Yeah there's always one...

For all of the moralising that goes on on this site about contracts and loyalty I hope that Wing stays at Souths.

Besides if he's unhappy being used as a utility player at Souths what makes him think it'll be any different at Parra.

FTR, here is where it stands with Wing and his contract with Souths.

1. He signed a deal with the club.

2. Off the back of his association with Souths he was offered a 3rd party deal with McGrath Real Estate. In exchange for 8 or so hours per week of his time, doing PR for them, McGrath were to pay him $50k per year.

3. Wing gets injured early last year and due to his injury and an extensive rehab program he is unable to complete his 8 hour per week commitment.

- Wing is claiming that Souths should re-imburse him the lost money as he was unable to complete his end of the bargain due to his injury.

- Due to this being an outside (3rd party) agreement, South Sydney claim that they have no liability, nor duty of care to ensure that Wing is available to complete it. As it is third party, it is negotiated between, Wing, his manager and McGrath and South's have no involvement.

South's have tried to find him more money, but cannot do so and keep under the cap. So that is where its at in a nutshell.

His contract with South's has nothing to do with these third party deals that he himself has organised and just because one of these has fallen over and he is $50k worse off per year, doesn't mean that he automatically has an out to his playing contract.

Although this sounds like a good summary of the situation from a legal point of view it could be a different story. Both sides have very good arguments, however when South’s initially negotiated Craig's contract, I’m almost certain that part of the contract would have been that he was able to get additional income from a third party sponsor for a certain amount. Then most likely it was probably up to Craig and his manager to secure this deal. The question is: since this part of the deal didn't eventuate like planned have south’s breached their contract with Craig?
I'm not sure I only have limited legally training, but I can certainly see both sides of the argument.

great lil player but the money can be used better in my eyes

totally agree. im happy with Kingston and Keating anyway and for the halves Mortimer and Keating will be fine. i honestly think getting another Backrower maybe a matt bell or matt scott (i believe he can play both front and backrow) or maybe put in for a good centre

tbh people, Wing would be a fantastic signing for his versatility, but i wouldn't pay over $200,000 for him

Yeah the Bigpond sites uses Flash player. Go to the Adobe site, find the flash player uninstaller and uninstall flash then go back to adobe and reinstall the free flash player then go back to the big pond site.

I have heard that Kingston really likes it at the eels and is keen to re-sign which is good to hear.

I honestly don't see where Craig Wing would fit into our team. He has stated he doesn't want to play hooker. DA has said that he sees Keating & Mortimer as our long term halves and Matt Keating is our hooker at the moment.

I doubt Craig Wing would want to come across and play 40 minutes of football at hooker/from the bench.

I think for both parties it is better if Wing stays at Souths. It'll allow us to re-sign Kingston at a fraction of the cost and possibly the likes of Galuvao, Latimore, etc.

kk, morts, mk and kingston have all been doing well for us. I think we should show them some faith.
