Australians: Michael Clarke (capt), Shane Watson, Ed Cowan, Chris Rogers, Phillip Hughes, Steve Smith, Brad Haddin (wk), James Faulkner, Ryan Harris, Ashton Agar, Jackson Bird, Nathan Lyon (12th man).

Why are all of Siddle, Starc and Pattinson missing? Surely you want to have your best XI out there settling into a good rhythm. At most you'd rotate one of them for Harris.

Any reason why Usman isn't playing? Wouldn't you want him to build on his last start? It kinda gives Cowan a free ride..

The way I see it that's the top 6 that will be in the first test, bowlers for the 1st test are rested (siddle, starc, pattinson and lyon).

Its not a bad move, our batting is the weakest link, any batting in the middle away from the nets is a good thing, hopefully conditions in this game are a bit tough.

Though Id possibly look to play Siddle in this game as he was out of sorts in the last warm up. Starc and pattinson are ready to go

I'm over Cowan tbh, he isn't very good at the elite level. He has had his chance/s. if he gets picked for the 1st test fair enough but you would think he would need spectacular scores to keep his place going forward.

And if the Irish retained their players and were granted full status, they'd be light years ahead of what Bangladesh were when they started out.

I wouldn't say light years ahead but Ireland would definitely be the better side.

We've won the toss and are batting. New Road is a beautiful ground, I spent a winter in Worcester a few years back and went to plenty of County Cricket there.

Australia side:

SR Watson, CJL Rogers, EJM Cowan, MJ Clarke*, PJ Hughes, SPD Smith, BJ Haddin†, JP Faulkner, RJ Harris, JM Bird, AC Agar

Worcestershire side:

NRD Compton, MG Pardoe, MM Ali, DKH Mitchell*, AN Kervezee, TC Fell, OB Cox†, GM Andrew, JD Shantry, CAJ Morris, CJ Russell

Rundown on the Worcestershire side for people who may not know them:

Compton - ECB Contracted sent to Worcs for practice.
Pardoe - Recently scored his maiden FC ton, but his average of 23 in 38 FC matches as a top order player says it all.
Ali - Quality batsman, useful part-time offies.
Mitchell - Quality batsman.
Kervezee - Dutch international. Good on his day, but is averaging less than 5 in the last 12 months in FC cricket,
Fell - Average of 16, but early days. However the fact he can't crack the Worcs firsts team as a regular with some of the numpties they pick ahead of him says it all.
Cox - Was relegated to second string keeper for former WA keeper Matt Johnson, who is terrible.
Andrew - Solid all-rounder. Famous for scoring a ton with the 'brick on a stick' bat.
Shantry - Solid first change bowler but will have to carry the attack here in the absence of Worcs best quick, Al Richardson, who is being rested.
Morris - Medium pace pie chucker.
Russell - Slightly above medium pace pie chucker.

They aren't playing a spinner (except Ali's part-time nude nuts) which is annoying given its our weakness and how much Swann will bowl this series.

There's also no real pace in the attack, Morris and Shantry are in the 125 region and Andrew and Russell are flat out at 130.

We should win this by 7,000,000,0000,000 runs.

Watson loving his opening gig, still have to see him do it in the actual thing since he did the same in the CT warm ups.

Watson 100!

After his 90 against Somerset, I have good feelings about him opening this Ashes.*

*Please note my earlier comments about the pop-gunnishness of Worcs bowling attack.

Cowan will probably hold his position because he'll undoubtably score runs against this popgun attack....

Cowan saves his hide against an attack Chris Martin would score runs against.

Yay!! I bet the Poms are shaking in their boots.
