How much of a difference would it have been if Reid played?
Reid's a good young player... i think he will end up being our best ever defender... but probably behind Rufer as our greatest ever player(which is no shame as Rufer was outrageously gifted and had proved himself in europe)
but he wouldn't have made a big difference...
our approach is the issue here... our whole approach to football is boring and dull... we have too many old english expats in our system who coach the natural flair out of our kids... so we end up producing half decent physical defenders but hardly any players technically proficient skill wise.
considering that we consistently produce some of the worlds most skillfull athletes in the rugby codes... with probably too much flair at times... shows that we should be producing better players.
Wynton Rufer and his academy have helped bring along some great talent... young Rojas now at Stuttgart & Tuiloma at Marseille.
In NZ football is a sport played by the upper class european kids who are to small to play the rugby codes...
IMO if the game of football could make serious inroads in to the athletically rich Polynesian community in this country we could produce some great kids...
im not saying we would win a world cup... but we may be able to have a golden generation who could at least make us competitive...
