The whole team being cowards and not backing Burto up lost the seriesA big back 3 is important, I can see why Freddy went that way.
Murray and Yeo getting KO'd was where the series was lost
JAC's speed is useless if the forwards aren't dominant. QLD would have driven JAC backwards every time he got the ball. There is none of the space outside the winger he has seen in the world cup. Secondly, Coates, Cobbo and Holmes have more than enough speed to defend JAC adequately. JAC showed nothing in his games with the Dogs when they were dominated to suggest he would have made the slightest difference to how we went in SOO.He is referring to Freddy not picking JAC for Origin being made to look dumber by the day. To be fair though while I think he should have been there, Fiji & Scotland are a rung or 3 below QLD.
I should have been clearer in my post. The "dumber by the day" bit is the media carry on to lay the slipper into Freddy. I still would have picked him over Tupou, but you are right, it would have made no difference to the outcome the way things panned out.JAC's speed is useless if the forwards aren't dominant. In game 1 and game 2, Tupou and To'o made over 200m each and nearly every metre was tough hit ups, the sort of stuff JAC just doesn't do. In game 3 To'o made 136m and Tupou 160m. Again, what was JAC going to add with his 136m average per game? He made less than 100m in six games in 2022 including a paltry 42m against the Sharks. I just don't see how he would have made the slightest bit of difference unless the Blues forwards can get on top and games 1 and 3 were arm wrestles.
The game was in the balance (leaning toward Qld.)until Talakai came on, looked clueless.JAC offers a long range threat.
QLD compressed and belted the back three since there was no way NSW would attempt to go around them with To'o and Tupou on the edges. Just not enough speed.
Whenever NSW tried a Penrith style shift to the left Sims, Talakai etc bungled it.
Martin and Yeo bagged tries and had good games. Martin looks like an absolute animal in the Australian jersey.
Cleary was good (aside from early goal kicking) but looked like the Queensland contingent pushed him aside and tried to give DCE the best chance to keep his jersey. Hunt from dummy half nearly always went looking for DCE.
Haven't seen stats. But would almost be certain DCE had a hell of a lot more touches than Cleary. So if the team has any say I think the spine is Teddy, Munster, DCE and Hunt/Grant.
It was always going to be Cleary. All this speculation was just theatre for media hacks.Martin and Yeo bagged tries and had good games. Martin looks like an absolute animal in the Australian jersey.

Watching the highlights it looks like once Yeo went to first receiver the Australian attack really started humming.
Can anyone confirm.?
Just seeking to have my hot take of Yeo being the second best NSW eligible halfback validated.
They swapped at halftime. But it felt like Hunt kinda starved cleary of the ball. Was looking for DCE on the last even when Yeo was set up to protect Cleary. Alot of his plays when going down Cleary's edge were flat balls for a hit up and when going the other way he actually passed it to DCE.DCE played in Cleary's normal right side.
So of course he would get more touches
Stats wise is was even

Last week he was feeding the ball to Cleary regularly and i felt he was far better for Nathan than Grant who seemed to prefer dummy half scoots when there's a sign of an attacking opportunity.
Beat spine is Teddy, Munster, Cleary and Hunt. Grant off the bench. But i expect Mal will go with the QLDer and use this game to justify his selection despite Cleary having done as much with less opportunities.
