good I am glad people don't like them.

It makes sure the smart ones still get to see them locally.

Who would them to turn out like Jet or fuggen Silverchair?

The smart ones are the ones who don't pay out $20 to see them, they'd rather go and buy a cheap porno from the cross:lol:

well Ron you do that.

I will have sex with a woman while you pull your own knob over video clips of blokes that look like prostitutes.

Big bands that YAI have influenced? or at least impressed ...lets see.

Sound Garden - They saw at the BDO YAI and liked them so much they took them on tour in the states.
There is a classic live recording of this gig that came with the first run of the Hi Fi Way album. You wouldn't know about it.

Crowded House - the opera house gig in front a 100 thousand plus people. Neil Finn hand picked them.

The stones - yep the fuggen stones also hand picked them.

The Who - again ...yep hand picked.

Silverchair - named themselves after a YAI song. not big enough for you ron?

The Vines - love them or hate them they are pretty big over sea's. YAI took them on support when they first started out. Andy Kent has played bass for them at times.

The Strokes - supported YAI ....when they could've done there own headline tour.

OASIS- YAI is one of Noel Gallaghers favourite bands. He hand picked YAI to tour Europe with them.

Sonic Youth - the first 2 albums were mixed be Lee Ronaldo. He is a big fan.

Plus ther are lots of other very successful bands/solo performers who are big fans.
the cruel sea, the hoodoo gurus, Powderfinger and Steve Earl come to mind.

But by me even telling you this won't make you smart enough to like them.

I saw the YAI/Strokes gig at the Newtown Theatre with Youth Group as support - great gig, dive of a venue!

fish eel, dont bother dude. theres too many glow stick wielding ecstasy taking dance music f**kwits out there and top 40 loving dicks for a good band like you am i to get too noticed.

I cant believe someone gave the excuse "if they are so good then wheres you am i's platinum albums". are you serious? so you're basing good music on the fact that it sells well? watch rage on saturday morning (i dont know if they still do the top 40 countdowns) and tell me if any of those songs are good.

Weak replies with no relevance really are the sign of someone losing the arguement. Just back out and admit you are wrong, or look silly with the over use of silly emoticons. Your choice champ.

Well if they were that good how come they cannot sell a platinum record or make it overseas? offcourse album sales are relevant, if they weren't then we would have the kids down the street claiming they're influential.

All great bands and musicians have sold albums Van Halen, ACDC, Gunners even Missy Higgins has done more globally then You am I:lol:

If you cannot sell albums then obviously you are not influential, simple.

RJ wins yet again, keep it comming boys and gals:cool:

I'm actually shocked i even replied to such tripe:lol:

Now, again, who have they influenced again? i'm almost positive that Rolling Stone were a sixties group, support bands are just that, support bands with little relevance.. i mean Axl Rose thinks Rose Tatoo is a god as too Seb Bach? please never use tha argument again. Sonic Youth? again....i'm sure they were before You am I....

David Bowie thought Iva Davies was great, does that make Iva great? no actually Iva sold the albums atleast to back up his music.

Tragic argument, all you need to know is that all great groups and musicians inspire many, hows this reflected? well album sales what else? You am I are not even rock, more pop/mainstream, so you'd think that would be another advantage they have to attract a larger market share......ffs even death metal groups can sell more albums, you cannot even understand the lyrics:lol:

I mean if they were that great everyone would want to see them, have their guitar signed by the king of Newtown.....their fans must keep going to the wrong venue it seems:lol:

Ramones never sold huge amount of albums yet they have been hugely influential

Anyway, im not going to pretend to be the biggest fan of You Am I around,m their music simply isnt my style. Im not, however, going to be stupid enough to dismiss what they have done over the years, they've been great for Australian music for a long time. Im also not stupid enough to equate quality of music with worldwide popularity. Some worldwide popular 'artists' over the last 30-40 years have included Abba, pussycat dolls, nickleback, backstreet boys and depache mode, music that is absolute balls.

Ramones are a myth, they were influential to some and because of them we now have a generation of mediocre musicians, happy? they were influential to particula people which many were the skidmarks of the earth, Sex Pistols?

What has You am I done?

Why would you not? how would define a great group then? If they didn't sell albums you wouldn't know that they were great because you wouldn't have heard them, album sales your right aren't absoluetly everything but are extremely important to influencing others, originality is another important component. So we have 3 major components;

- Significant album sales
- Significant Influence
- Originality

You am I unfortunately don't have any three of these, they sound like everyother band you hear at a pub, pathetic record sales for a band allegded to be influential.

Oh and as for ABBA etc, well a start you have compared them to a different genre altogether to suit your argument, and secondly Nickleback have alot more musical talent then You am I, do you consider You am I to be more talented then Nickleback? tell me why you think that and support your argument. ABBA whilst were not my favourite group or genre were talented in their own right, just because a particular genre doesn't suit yours doesn't make them less talented, listen to the actual music, anyone with an ear can spot something which requires talent, playing eruption requires talent, playing 4 bar chords? not so much:lol:
