Canberra sacked Todd Carney over unproven allegations... shouldn't Brisbane stand down the players for the same reason. Much less of a penalty.

Maybe,I bet if it was a club game they would have been suspended.

The Sharks are in the finals now. Bird went to the club and asked if he could play in the finals, they said "No way".

And if the Broncos would drop them for a club game, but not a finals game is even worse. It tells you that they believe the players behaved badly, but winning the finals game is more important.

As I've said before, the 3 should be allowed to play, but the Broncos public statements that they're far tougher than any other club and hold their players to far stricter codes of conduct than other clubs shows what many people have known for years to be bullsh*t - their public comments are crap. It's an absolute joke that the NRL let the Broncos get away with this. Your actions must match your words.

Even taking away the allegations of sexual assault... Didn't Lockyer and management tell players NOT to drink during the finals series? They have broken team rules.

I guess because they are 3 important players, they have different rules?

f**king ridiculous. Sharks and Canberra fans should rightly feel pissed off.

you guys are deadset morons and the media feed on people like you. police and the club haven't even confirmed who was involved. comparing it to the bird case is lunacy.

lol @ taking everything the media say or what you heard from your friends dads brothers wife as gospel.

You don't think if it wasn't them that they'd be fighting tooth and nail to get their names off?

Fair enough call. However the media aren't stupid enough to name 3 players if they weren't the ones questioned. It's not exactly similar to the Bird case but the Broncos are standing by their players when other clubs have taken a harsher view in recent history.

If not they are the same as Melbourne, no integrity at all. Walk with me, will you ?

They showed Julian O'Neill the door in 1995 after he allegedly urinated on the carpet while playing blackjack at Jupiter's Casino to last year's dismissals of utilities Ian Lacey and John Te Reo for repeated alcohol-related offences, they've adopted a firm stand.

Current Canberra forward Neville Costigan felt Brisbane's wrath in 2006 after driving his car to get a hamburger while still under the influence of alcohol.

Likewise Brett Seymour, currently playing for Cronulla, was punted for his involvement in a nightclub incident.

Bruno is all talk and no action.

:roll::roll::roll::roll::roll:

How many prior incidents was O'Neil involved in?

All clubs sack lesser players like those other players you mentioned for off-field incidents. The Broncos aren't alone. A lot of clubs will have a similar number. But no clubs sack top-line players (except if there is a long history of misbehaviour). The Broncos claim they're tougher than other clubs. Well it's time for them to prove it. But it won't happen.

I'm a diehard Shark fans, and I must say two totally different situations.
The three Broncos should be allowed to play, and Bird should not as he is charged.

Canberra sacked Todd Carney over unproven allegations...
And this was all after a clean record, right?
If you're going to compare....Carney? The guy had 100232 chances with Canberra hardly a good argument there.

That's not the point. The Raiders took action against unproven allegations, whereas as the Broncos are ignoring them for the time being. If Canberra are going to action based on allegations, then the Broncos should be doing so also. I'm not suggesting sacking, but they should be taking a tougher stand.

If charges are laid before the weekend, I'd expect the players would be instantly dropped and stood down.

Bird was charged, his club had reason to believe that he lied to them, and police had witnesses and reason to believe Bird had lied to them.

So no, Bird shouldn't really be cheesed off.

Although I hope if these guys crossed the line of consent in the toilet cubicle and are charged, that the book is thrown at them.

Who ever said they were unproven allegations??

Todd Carney never denied them. You obviously have no clue what actually happened.

Shut up mate. He never fully admitted them either. You have no clue either, charges were never laid yet he was condemned and given an ultimatem and eventually sacked. The Broncos players were out on the piss all day, and have had a very serious claim laid against them. Obviously something happened but we don't know what, either way the club should be taking a stand for the players putting themselves in that position in the 1st place.

One thing is clear, Brisbane have a tough code of conduct, only when it suits.

As Dan Kock has said

http://www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,8659,24352069-23214,00.html
Enforcing a zero-tolerance policy was easy when it meant axing fringe players like Brett Seymour, John Te Reo, Ian Lacey and even Neville Costigan.

Todd Carney never denied them. You obviously have no clue what actually happened.

Carney did deny them. If he admitted to it, then he would have been charged - they don't need a victims impact statement to press charges. A confession would be more than enough to prosecute

Consistency, please!

Greg Bird was charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm

The Broncos haven't been charged

Julian O'Neil was sacked, from memory, after a number of alcohol related problems, culminating in the incident at Jupiters.

The three Broncos, as far as I can tell, are cleanskins to this point.

Todd Carney had a number of alcohol related incidents which he was charged for. Canberra punted him after he refused to seek counselling that the club offered.

The three Broncos, as far as I can tell, haven't yet refused any counselling, if it has been offered.

Eperama Navale was sacked by Parramatta after he was charged for bashing his wife.

Again, no charges have been laid on the Broncos three.

Inncoent until proven guilty is enshrined in our law.

But not in our society.

It is common workplace practice in some quarters to stand down people who are under investigation. In public office, it happened to Della Bosca and Koperberg - both exonerated. It happens in the police force. It happens to teachers. It happens in the churches, and in many other workplaces. I guess the key is PUBLIC workplaces.

The Bronco three are very public. And this is the dilemma:
Do the Broncos stand down three players who are yet to be charged, and maybe miss a premiership? Would it be fair to rob a premiership off three blokes who are yet to even be charged?
Or do they play on, possibly win the comp, and then face charges and maybe a sentence?
The big woirry is the QLD police are saying charges may not be laid intil October. Bird got charged almost immediately.

So what's fair? Buggered if I know. Probably the best decision is to stand them down pending investigation. This is the best damage control the NRL can impliment.
