I doubt it. Would be like trying to quit smoking after your favourite brand went off the market. It's an addiction.

Besides the Bulldogs I really don't have an interest in the NRL anymore!

I would still be involved with Junior RL and watch International RL but i wouldn't support the NRL, I’d still watch the odd game on TV (If there was nothing else on)... My passion for the NRL has decreased immensely over the last 7 or so years, my passion for the Bulldogs has increased!

I don't know. I would have thought so, but it's already happened once, and I ended following St. George who I had previously hated. I guess a name on the bottom of the badge and a pair of socks was enough to keep me interested. :D

Key factors to consider here is it a natural death of a club or pushed out or dudded.

I think if its a natural one then anger should be centered on the club management and not the code. As a Bears supporter my interest has depleted but now I'm a utterly neutral supporter of the sport....except if manly is playing of course. Also most bears supporters would hate both the News LTD and ARL "fatctions" which are in control.

.... But the sport of Rugby League should not be dumped, just the gimps who taint and corrupt it.

I'd stop watching the NRL alltogether.

At the moment I watch all the games I can (like I always have)..but the overall product the NRL produces is getting more and more boring to me. I only really get excited when I'm watching my team. Pretty much every other game is a bore to me with the exception of the odd standout game. IE: Warriors V Manly on Sunday.

I'd still watch test matches religously, and probably start supporting a club in the ESL instead.

I might watch the odd game but I wouldn't spend the hundreds of dollars I do now on memberships, apparel, media, etc.

yes, i would dump the code in a heartbeat if my club folded - have done in the past and will again if the circumstances arise - i follow souths first, daylight second, and rugby league a very distant third

yeah well, I believe in the quality of the game of rugby league, so see ya pal.

We'll get on just fine without the likes of you.

You are no fan.

People in soccer, etc, may lament when their club dies, goes down the ladder, etc, but they never give up watching soccer.

You are not a fan, you're a pretender.

Bye

Yeah I find I have to either have money on a game or players in my fantasy team to keep interested in non Knights matches these days.

Absolutely not, but my interest would definitely be depleted in the NRL itself. State of Origin and Internationals would still mean the world to me!

In the Q-Cup, my team was Wests. They were my local team and I played for them as a junior. Clydesdales had been my second team because of the Broncos influence back then, so when Wests went belly-up I went on to Toowoomba. When the Clydies folded, that was it for me. I've only regrettably been to three or four Q-Cup matches since, but that's what it does for you!

If the Broncos folded (which, granted, is extremely unlikely) I'd say it'd be the same. Rock up to a test match and maybe one or two NRL matches throughout the year, enjoy watching it on tele every week, but that'd be it.

Maybe you miss the point of what being a loyal supporter to your club is all about. I hate every other club but my own, I would never watch the game with the same passion as before... As a result my interest in it would fade away over time.

One less bum on a seat.

Yeah I would. Might watch some games on TV but not religiously.

And no, that doesn't make me selfish, it makes me a Knights fan. So how about you shut the f**k up and get off your high horse.

Discuss that.

You're a union twat anyway so it would be no big loss.

dumping the code if your team went bust would be like swearing off women if your girlfriend dumped you

if you then started following AFL it would be like switching to homosexuality

 Perfectly said.

I reckon I'd probably follow the Queensland Cup a lot closer if the Raiders ever got the punt though

Actually the NRL needs any money it can get at the moment. It doesn't matter if it comes from a diehard supporter of a club like myself who just enjoys watching, or a sadmerkin desperado who sits on forums bitching about journos and radio stations with "agendas" like you.

Being a Souths fan I have some experience in this matter. In the two seasons Souths were not apart of the NRL I did not give up supporting the game. If in the unlikely circumstances Souths were again booted from the competition I would still support our great game.

From someone who has been there and knows how it feels, I would definitely watch less games, would not buy a season pass each year and would most likely watch SOO and the Finals in the main.

That is not due to spite, but due to the sadness of not having 'your' team to support anymore. It simply is not the same.

No chance of turning to Union or AFL (gag), but more than likely be staying up late to watch more EPL.

I think you will find that the majority of supporters will be just like the above example. You may be in the minority, but fact is most supporters follow their CLUB first and the game second. That's just a fact of life. And that applies to AFL, soccer, or any other code.

Every individual is different and I'm not saying what stance is right and what is wrong. But for you to say such supporters such as the one above are not 'real fans' is 100% dead wrong because the clubs ARE the game. The main attraction in following a sport in the first place is through loyal and devoted following of a CLUB. So for most people no club = no game.

However, I think a lot also depends of HOW a club was punted. If it was forced (like Souths) or were screwed over (like Norths) then supporters have every right to dump the game altogether. However if a club folds through their own mismanagement or if it's a merger like Wests Tigers then I'd say most supporters of the club that drops out of the comp will be able to cop that and still follow the game.

you just mirrored exactly what i said - i am a fan (and paying member) of the south sydney rabbitohs ONLY and i enjoy watching them play rugby league - however, take away souths and bye bye league - it is our birthright to stay in the competition we helped create and like 1999 when we got kicked out, I'll just mount the colours in a glass cabinet and hang it in my bar for prosterity and give game away in the blink of an eye....if you think you will be just fine without me good for you!

If the Raiders folded I would probably just follow the Newcastle Rugby League because that is where I live now. Until I "got over it" and I would probably just follow the game as a neutral.

I wouldn't give up on Rugby League. Watching the NRL would be hard though.
