My grandfather passed away earlier this week and my grandmother (his wife) passed away late last year.

My aunt has been a right merkin through the whole process. She decided not to call my father (who was staying two minutes walk away) when it became clear my grandfather was dying, she gave away my grandparents' dog to a friend of hers despite my Dad asking if he could take it, and has now begun laying claim to everything in the house before my grandfather is even in the ground.

Once the will is read and the depths of her failings as a human being are shown, I'll be giving her a call and letting her know just how little I think of her and just how much I look forward to not attending her funeral when she inevitably dies of a massive heart-attack.

How somebody could act so selfishly and so callously towards her only brother during a time that should bring the two of them closer together is beyond me.

Sorry to hear that mate, but really, don't give her the satisfaction of a long explanation.

Just tell her you're done.

Condolences. It was quite the wake up when I realised that I no longer had any grandparents left, and that parents generation were now at 'front of queue'.
Grew up with 3 (paternal GF died in the 60s) in a small town. Was fantastic in that regard.

Kind of reminds me of when my uncle took his own life almost a decade ago now. He had a lot of my mum and grandma's family heirlooms etc in his shed and his partner wouldn't let anyone in our family have any of them, nor give my grandma her son's ashes. You might think the latter isn't so bad since she was his partner, but when you think about the kind of person she is to the type of person my grandma (aka a saint) is it's very sad that looney ended up with them. Suffice to say, she was a fruitloop, and since he died, has been completely cut off by the family.

My mum, grandma and her went down to Sydney to see my uncle's son arrive at Sydney airport after he had been told of the news. After he'd arrived she just f**ked off somewhere, never told anyone where she was going and none of them saw her again until they were back in Newcastle a few days later

Some people just go bonkers when a death occurs in the family I guess.

lmao its so true. I was worried he would die before he finished Dance. I am still worried about the next one.

As long as he Robert Jordan's it and has plenty of notes so somebody can finish his work. tbh, his abilities as a writer are second to his abilities as a story-teller. If I read 'Tyrion waddled...' less than a dozen times in Winds of Winter, I'll be stunned.

It really does. Sounds like your uncle's partner and my aunt are cut from the same cloth :-(

Grandad's passing leaves me with no grandparents. His wife passed away last September and my mother's mother (whom I was closest with of my grandparents) died in early 2007. My grandfather on her side died in the 70s - well before I was born.

It's definitely a sobering realization that my link to that period of history is completely gone now.

I really should read the Song of Ice and Fire boxset I got for Christmas (first 4 books, I think, though it might only be the first 3, with book 3 split). I think the main reason I haven't is a bit of a fantasy hangover from the end of the Wheel of Time.

When you send someone a message or an email, and you KNOW they received it, and they still don't reply immediately because they're trying to act like they're not that interested/they are busy WHEN YOU KNOW FOR A FACT THAT THEY ARE INTERESTED AND THEY ARE NOT BUSY.

Stop playing games for f**k's sake.

My grandmother on my dads side passed away a couple of hours before I was born, sad thing? She was going to my parents place to see my mum/dad before they were heading to the hospital. She went through an intersection, drunk driver ran a red and it was goodbye.

My great grandfather on my mothers side passed away last year. He left NOTHING to his daughter (My grandmother). He gave everything to his son because "He felt like it". This was also the bastard that lied he had cancer to get sympathy. We later found out the son plotted it to go against his sister and get everything (A house and about 180k cash). When I found out, I payed him a nice visit and said upon his death I'll be sure to piss upon his grave. I also said Karma will get you and your whole family. Since last year when he rorted my grandmother from the will. Both his kids got divorced and he tripped, busted his head and broke his leg. No sympathy.

China.

The Chinese food we eat at home is much better than the real thing. Or at least, much better than Jiangsu food.

People who work themselves into a frothy lather about how cats and dogs have the same value as humans and are JUST LIKE US THEY LOVE JUST LIKE WE DO.

Well guess what they f**king aren't and they f**king don't, I would gladly murder 2000 kittens and 2000 puppies to save the life of one human being, and if you wouldn't do that I think you are an evil person.

Sounds more psychopathic than the people you were complaining about tbh.

How is that psychopathic? I wouldn't WANT to do it, but f**k me I wouldn't hesitate for one second.

Everyone has psychotic thoughts, to deny it is lying. It's one's acting on them. No one is going to say "Go kill 2,000 kittens or I kill this person". I think he's speaking figuratively.

In saying that, I know some people I wouldn't piss on if they were on fire.

Just seemed like quite a disturbing scenario to hypothesise about and then say you'd gladly do it

And yeah, I wouldn't kill a single one to save some random person walking down the street.

Well maybe the kittens...
