Expect to see JWH replace Paea, Cherrington to replace Mason, and Linnett or Williamson to replace Anasta (M Aubusson > lock) by the end of 2010. SKD is on his last chance too.

I doubt Mason, Sa or Waqa will even be around before the season starts.

17. Poore/Moi Moi/Cayless(pfft?)

Yeah we dont have much of an idea whats going on. We apparently wont lose any player thats contracted if they want to stay and thats from Ossie. We have been hearing Burt is leaving for the Titans, now its the Warriors, before it was HullFC, he wont go anywhere. Inu and Mateo were linked to the Bulldogs, they have both publically come out and said no way. Grothe is linked to everywhere but a NRL club, I think if anyone is to leave its him, but he himself has said he hasnt had any real offers from anywhere.

So yeah, we got no idea. We have alot of selection problems. Selection problems other clubs would kill for.

Any club would kill for this side ( look at the possibilites there) im not a band wagons supporter im a parra lover but holy crap! look at the possibilites in that back line, also tim mortimer has got the call up to the train on squad, that has come from the most reliable source you could get info from, Humble is apparently a top notch player! Bring on Parra in 2010~~~~~!!!!!

Joe Tomane should be sleeping at Matt Rogers place if he wants to play center next year.

This is the reason why I think 2011 may be the year for the Knights. While in the long run Brian Smith leaving is good in the short term it may mean putting together a team Stone is comfortable with. But at least he gets a full offseason and is familiar with the squad. I think the Knights will find it tough to make the playoffs in 2010 due to Brian Smith and his forever tinkering with the halves.

Im thinking cusp of 8 in 2010 and if stability is gained I would go for top 6 in 2011.
Stone will know the players well having been the assistant since before Smith arrived, whether he can coach or not is a different story..

I take your point, however perhaps the most significant loss is the coach.

It will be interesting to see how Stone goes next year when the honeymoon is over.

Also, Cross will certainly be there, but
  • who is going to drop out for Cirro and/or Tolar (if he ever comes back from that horrific knee injury);
  • will Pato ever be right; and
  • even Jimmy - Coops, Aku, McDonnell, Lulia (or 2 thereof) may well have jumped past him.
I would start with Coops and Jim but who knows what Stone is thinking there.

We will get the inevitable injuries and we have some depth, but we are still lacking that superstar or two to get us home in the big games.

Gids and Mullo just aren't in that upper echelon where we need them to be.... hell, this years premiers have four superstars (Slater, Inglis, Smith, Cronk).
we might not have the superstars to win it but theres no real reason we should go worse. I mean having guys like Cross, Pato, Ciro and Tolar back means less Wes Naiqama, Danny Wicks and Marvin Karawana which can only be a good thing. McManus IMO is still our number 1 winger and is rep quality.
Theres a school of thought out there that your props are your most important players and both our starting props got hurt this year and missed most of the season. Our injuries in the forwards meant nuffies like Wes and Marv getting picked everyweek but theres no way they'll get picked ahead of Houston, taia, Hilder, Simpson, Paterson (if he's back to normal), and even Ciraldo and Taufua if everyone is on deck

15.Saffy
16.Greenfield
17.Scott (can play centre or 2nd row)

(This line-up is putting into consideration that Wendell has left, which he most likely now has)

There is no way Tagive will be ready to slip into A-Grade and if we leave Hornby at halfback then we will have another year of heartache. Need to move Boyd to Centres, Hornby to Fullback and Fien to Halfback. Wendell or Nightingale on one wing. Merrin is into grade this year and will no doubt get bench spot in front of Saffy.

1) Hornby
2) Nightingale
3) Boyd
4) Cooper
5) Morris
6) Soward
7) Fien (NZ halfback)
8) Merrin
9) Young (we need a good hooker)
10) Weyman
11) Creagh
12) Smith
13) Costigan

Scott, Saffy, Greenfield, Tagive, Lett, Green, Prior, Henry, Vickery, Marketo

Plenty of depth and some really good players coming through the 20's like usual. We struggle at hooker though. I imagine Beau Henry will get a crack at some stage.

Saints should have signed Kingston at hooker if you want to move Hornby to fullback.

I agree, I cannot believe they were not in the market for him. Henry looks like he might have the goods but you'd think he is still a bit off making a regular first grader.

No team ever wins a comp without a quality halfback. At the moments Dragons have a makeshift half. When things are working he is fine, but as was case against Brisbane, Hornby was unable to put any variation into the game plan and kept sending them into a brick wall.

which is my point - if the rest of the comp is moving forwards (or at least some teams), and we are standing still, we are effectively going backwards.... and its not like we were up the top to begin with.

time will tell, hopefully we have a fair bit of improvement in us without needing to buy.

I still think we are a half short of being contenders but bring on 2010, lets find out!

Parramatta were moving backwards from 08-09. Only change from 08 was a new coach, then everything fell into place. Its amazing the success teams go through with a new coach. IE, Parra this year, Knights after Smithy left went on a winning run, Parra of 06 with JT taking over mid season.

Ill never write of Newcastle, but I wouldnt look at them and think "wow"

I think Gallant at the back and Bowen at 6 could be the Cowboys best option for next year. Gallant is a natural fullback, and does little things that Bowen often doesn't (like take bombs on the full under pressure). It also stops Bowen having to play both fullback and 5/8 at the same time.

I must have missed something but where is Bowen?

Has a knee injury and will miss the start of the season
