Yow Yeh's Ankle

I remember watching Prince's injury at the time. I believe it was the Broncos/Bulldogs match in 2001, and never ever forgot the replay of Prince's leg snapping on a Bulldog's player as he kicked the ball. That, along with George Rose's injury vs Melbourne in 2007, are two of the most sickening injuries I've seen on a rugby league field.

Yow Yeh's injury reminds me of Ecuardo (that former Arsenal player that ppl have made reference to). Whether it's career threatening or not, bottom line is that Yow Yeh is going to be out of the game for a long time and it'd be very surprised if he ever played rep footy again.

I was at that game where Prince broke his leg, and the sound was absolutely sickening even from up in the grandstand.

The only sound that has come close to it was Joel Clinton and Jerome Ropati's head clash: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARO2Pwf3VK4

Good luck to Yow Yeh. It is terrible for the young guy. If he never makes it back, and I really hope he does, I have faith my club will look after him in some capacity.

I reckon at least 18 months before he even takes the field. Then probably another 6 to start getting back to where he was. Hopefully they learned a bit managing Hodges problem and don't bring him back until 2014.

Funny thing is most of the merkins on here giving advice work in factories driving forklifts or are labourers lol

Sorry is their something wrong with that?

You really are a little shit, this is going to be a much longer rehabilitation period than 2 months, all you have to do is look at the photo and you will see that it will take longer than 2 months. His leg and ankle are basically separated and only being held together by the skin and even that had been pierced.

What is going to keep him out of the game is the mental side of it, it will take along time to regain the confidence to put a lot of pressure on the foot and jump and compete for the ball.

I just hope he can make the physical recovery quickly so that he can start the mental recovery as soon as possible. Drew Mitchell had a similar injury last year and he was back within the year but then re-injured it and will probably miss all of this season because he came back too early.

Take your time Jharal, don't rush it, all the best and I hope that you are able to one day make it back to your best.

Brisbane winger Jharal Yow Yeh is likely to miss the rest of the NRL season after undergoing surgery on a broken ankle, but the horrific injury isn't expected to be career-threatening.
Yow Yeh remains in a Perth hospital after suffering a compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle in the Broncos' 20-12 triumph over the Rabbitohs on Friday night.
Such was the devastating nature of the injury, broken bone pierced through Yow Yeh's lower right leg, leaving the speedster in distress in the in-goal area after contesting a cross-field kick with Rabbitohs winger Dylan Farrell.
The 22-year-old faces a second operation in the coming days, with a timeline on his return to be set once he sees a specialist, but the chances of Yow Yeh appearing again this season are slim at best.
Yow Yeh will remain in hospital over the coming days and must receive the green light from medical staff before being able to fly back to Brisbane.
Broncos skipper Sam Thaiday, who along with Justin Hodges comforted Yow Yeh while the young winger received on-field treatment, said it was difficult to see his teammate go through so much pain.
"He's laying there with his bone sticking outside of his boot," Thaiday said.
"He was in a lot of pain there.
"Hodgo and I were just trying to encourage him as much as we could.
"The first thing that goes through your head when you get injured is your footy, and then your career and season.
"He was asking questions along the lines of those things.
"We were just reassuring him and making sure that he knew that we were there for him and supporting him."
Yow Yeh enjoyed a breakout campaign last year, making his State of Origin debut for Queensland and notching three Tests for Australia.
Thaiday was confident Yow Yeh would be able to recapture his best form once he overcame the ankle injury.
"The beauty of it is that he's still young, he's still got a lot of time to come back from this and we're expecting him back," Thaiday said.
Brisbane coach Anthony Griffin said Dale Copley and Dane Gagai were the frontrunners to replace Yow Yeh for Friday night's clash with St George Illawarra at Suncorp Stadium.

Encouraging, but the biggest unknown will be how he responds to rehab. As many have said here, he may not trust that leg again. Will he jump, step and run like he used to?

Oh, and Usain Bolt is a hero.

the hardest thing for him will be getting over the mental trauma of looking down and seeing his foot hanging on by a thread.

and then having to go back out on the field he's gonna be so gun shy. worst possible injury for a speedy back.

I know Georgie Rose still can't really run on his leg very much and that's 5 years later.

to me it should remind all players and clubs to put the work in to develop off field skills because footy can end at any moment, doesn't matter how talented you are.

Hope he's doing okay the poor kitten :(

He made his comeback to MMA on January 23rd 2010.

Hopefully Yowyeh plays again.

The best news is that it doesn't look to be career threatning according to the article on our offical site.

Despite the horrible look of the tibia bone sticking out, it's the extent of damage to ligaments and tendons that will determine his future, as long as the infection is kept under control.
Today's medical technology and having a club like the Broncos supporting you, will come a long way to get Yow Yeh back at his best, but I can't imagine it happening before 2013...
That IS good news.

Glad he got some good news from the surgeon, wish him the speediest recovery possible, that was horrific.
