Yow Yeh's Ankle

absolutely heartbreaking. if that happened to one of my boys (was at the Rabbitohs now at the Panthers) i would be completely inconsolable. i struggled enough with seeing Flash break his ankle and it's nowhere near that bad.

the fact he's alone in a Perth hospital bed wondering if he will ever play again just kills me.

i hope he gets back on the field but he will never be what he was. remember Justin Carney was gonna be a superstar than he broke his leg badly and now he's just an average first grader.

and poor Taniela Tuiaki had to retire because of his injury.

people may bag the players saying they get paid too much but its instances like this that makes you realise how dangerous the sport is. they put their bodies on the line every week and sometimes it goes wrong.

i wish him all the love in the world.

It is certainly up there with watching the Rose incident in terms of sickening.

For him I hope the compound fracture above the ankle is all that there is.

Tuiaki for example had 3 different breaks in the structure of the ankle along with ligament damage which is what ended his career.

He will no doubt be spending a while in Perth before headeing home.

If there's a god, he's not a Broncos fan it seems.

Poor young fella. These blokess put their bodies on the line like this for our entertainment and all the dollars in the world can't buy protection from this sort of thing. Depending on how well his surgery and recovery goes, to whatever degree Yow Yeh is now scarred for life.

Career ending? It could affect his ability to maximise potential in the future, but I dont think theres any doubt he'll back on the field at some point.

JHARAL Yow Yeh's injury has been diagnosed in Perth today after he was taken to hospital during last night's NRL match against South Sydney.
The Australian Test winger has a compound fractured and dislocated right ankle after landing awkwardly attempting to catch a bomb in the first half of the game.
This morning he underwent a temporary procedure at the Perth hospital to have the wound cleaned and closed where the bone had broken the skin.
There will be further surgery once Yow Yeh has been seen by a specialist.
No comment will be able to be made on the amount of time he will be out of the game until that consultation with the surgeon and the second procedure has taken place.
The injury is not deemed career threatening.
Team management and the team doctor stayed with Yow Yeh in Perth when the team flew back overnight.
Yow Yeh's mother will join him in Perth today.

Sickening... Worst I've seen since George Rose's leg facing the wrong way.

To say it is not career threatening is silly. He hasn't seen a specialist, he hasn't had a proper op, he hasn't even started physio recovery to walk, forget running... I don't mean to be too negative about the injury, but please be realistic.

I had a spiral fracture of my fibula and dislocated my ankle many years ago. Like someone else said, they can swell with pressure just standing too long. He will have plates and a screw for the ankle. Even my comparatively basic injury required that. I was on crutches for 10 weeks and didn't run for years. In fact I was told I would never run again.

I wish him all the best on the recovery and can understand the pain the poor man had and will continue to endure. I was thankful I was hammered on prescription drugs for most of my recovery.

Feel for Jharal poor bloke, unfortunately it happens in our game. I hope he bounces back and returns in 2013.

Scott Prince's injury was certainly as bad as that a few years ago when he played for the Broncos. Jharal will be back next season. He's young and will heal well, and I'm sure the Broncos will organise the best of medical care for him.

We wish him all the best. Hopefully he can gain some consolation and help from guys like Prince, Rose, and Ciraldo who have all returned from horrible injuries.

The best news is that it doesn't look to be career threatning according to the article on our offical site.

Despite the horrible look of the tibia bone sticking out, it's the extent of damage to ligaments and tendons that will determine his future, as long as the infection is kept under control.
Today's medical technology and having a club like the Broncos supporting you, will come a long way to get Yow Yeh back at his best, but I can't imagine it happening before 2013...

Hard to imagine how he comes back from that the same player but he's still so young and loaded with talent. Wish him all the best in his recovery

Reminds me of Eduardo (former Arsenal player) having his leg snapped in half when an opposition player came flying in and absolutely murdered him.

Was out for more than 12 months, just couldn't get his confidence back and wasn't the same player .. so they let him go.

He's done better at his new team (in a new country), but hasn't hit the heights that many expected of him pre-broken leg.

With all long-term injuries, the rough theory to work by is "It takes twice as long as the time you spent out of the game to get back to the same stage you were at before your injury."

So if he's out for a year, it will take about two years to get back to the same stage he was at last week .. essentially, that's three years of development gone.

It's a real shame for him, and I feel so sorry for him too .. he seems like a really nice person, didn't deserve this at all and he would be so shattered.

All the best to Yow Yeh in his recovery, and to his family as they attempt to help him rehabilitate mentally.

I'm sure he will be having a tough time pulling through...
I'm confident that he will be mentally strong enough to overcome his injury, but whether if his body can, I just don't know... My prayers are with him and his family.

I remember watching Prince's injury at the time. I believe it was the Broncos/Bulldogs match in 2001, and never ever forgot the replay of Prince's leg snapping on a Bulldog's player as he kicked the ball. That, along with George Rose's injury vs Melbourne in 2007, are two of the most sickening injuries I've seen on a rugby league field.

Yow Yeh's injury reminds me of Ecuardo (that former Arsenal player that ppl have made reference to). Whether it's career threatening or not, bottom line is that Yow Yeh is going to be out of the game for a long time and it'd be very surprised if he ever played rep footy again.
