Why? Yvonne Sampson has it all.

I don't rate Erin Molan as a presenter/commentator at all apart from looks. Out of 1 to 10, I'll give her one.

What’s the Buzz: Channel Nine and Fox Sports in bitter legal stoush over presenter Yvonne Sampson

CHANNEL Nine and Fox Sports are embroiled in a legal battle over presenter Yvonne Sampson and her defection to the pay-TV network.

Nine’s director of sport Tom Malone has fired off a legal letter to his Fox Sports counterpart Steve Crawley as the hostility between the networks over the NRL expert threatens to become an all-out war.

Channel 9 is trying to stop Sampson from launching or promoting Fox Sports’ new 24-hour rugby league channel in February, claiming she has a six-month non-compete clause in her contract which expires on December 31.

Fox Sports lawyers have read the contract and are challenging the clause.

Its executives are treating the launch of the 24/7 channel as the biggest and most important project in the network’s history and want Sampson at the front and centre of it.

The situation is getting nasty with one senior Nine staffer being accused of trying to leak financial details of Sampson’s negotiations in a bid to unsettle current staff at Fox Sports.

The fight between the networks places commentator and presenter Peter Sterling in an awkward position because he works for both Nine and Fox Sports.

With Sampson leaving, there is talk Nine will use Sterling as her replacement to host its Thursday, Friday and Sunday coverage plus State of Origin and the finals series.

If that happens, there is speculation Fox Sports would offer Sterling an early exit from his contract that still has 12 months to run.

His Wednesday night Sterlo On The Couch show is the one rugby league program on Fox Sports that didn’t improve in its ratings last season, while Matty Johns and NRL 360 enjoyed strong increases along with the live football coverage.

Doesn't say much for rugby league fans when nrl360 Is doing better. Sterlo on the couch was one of the few decent segments in any of the shows.

Seems pretty petty by nine given the clause runs out end of this month

Despite that knobhead Hooper, Sterlo's show is great. I don't understand how its doing the worst. 360 is f**king terrible - out of the 8 or so regulars Toovey and Ennis are the ones worth feeding.

Tug-of-war over Yvonne

Nine and Fox Sports are locked in a legal battle over presenter Yvonne Sampson’sdefection to Fox’s new 24-hour rugby league channel Fox League. The channel is set to launch in time for the start of the 2017 NRL season, and Sampson is set to be the face of Fox League, launching and promoting younger-skewing coverage of the code. But Nine’s director of sport Tom Malone has fired off a strongly worded legal letter to his former colleague, Fox Sports head of live sport Steve Crawley. Nine is trying to stop Sampson from spearheading Fox League, claiming she has a six-month non-compete clause in her contract, which expires on December 31. But here’s the rub: it’s a six-month non-compete with no pay. The blunder begs the question: if Nine felt Sampson was this valuable, why didn’t it tie her down to a better contract. Fox Sports lawyers have gone over the contract with a fine-tooth comb and will challenge the clause.

Buzz always has a dig at Sterlo any chance he gets. As for 360 the AFL version double's the NRL version in viewers its a wonder Kent and Ikin are not under pressure. Matty enjoyed a great lead in Live Monday night Football. Don't think Sterlo would be to worried.

MY FEUD WITH PETER STERLING

It’s impossible to be a sportswriter without upsetting people along the way.

I fell out with Sterlo back in 1983 at a time when I became aware Manly boss Ken Arthurson, armed with the biggest chequebook in the game, was trying to pinch the champion half-back from the Eels.

I spoke to Parramatta CEO Denis Fitzgerald and told him I was going to write the story.

He pleaded with me not to because he feared that if it went public, Arthurson would be even more determined to win the battle for his signature.

So we did a deal. Fitzgerald said he was confident Sterling would stay and promised me the story as soon as he signed.

I rang Fitzgerald two or three times a week. It was bordering on harassment.

Eventually he called to say Sterling had signed but said there was a problem.

His manager John White and Sterling wanted to keep the story for the next morning to publish it in the Daily Mirror, where he was being paid as a columnist.

I told Fitzgerald I was going to write it anyway. We had a deal and his obligations to the Mirror were not my problem.

So we broke the story on the back page of the Telegraph and did a double page inside. ‘Sterlo signs life deal after Arko’s secret bid to pinch him.’

At the time I can remember Sterlo was reading the morning sports news on 2WS.

He rang me on my home phone number at around 5.30am.

What he delivered was the best and most furious spray I’ve ever copped from a football player.

It cannot be repeated in this family newspaper.

We didn’t talk for more than a decade. Then we bumped into each other in Country Road at the Erina shopping centre and he challenged me outside for a fight.

Another time he slammed me on the Footy Show and I sued him.

Channel Nine settled out of court. I bought a little boat and called it STERLO.

Now there's a man with integrity, bragging about that time he sued someone.

Yet another reason to watch Foxsports coverage over 9's. Love me some Vonny.

Does anyone with a choice watch ch9? We need a strong Ch9 for the casual fans but they aren't competition. I would of loved a deal to of kept her hosting the footy show though
