because he knows Lomax and Ramsey will star for us for many years to come
its comforting to know that Ramsey, Schiller AND Sullivan have all played and had great success against men...just saying for a lot of juniors have not

My posts about Zac haven’t been about his ability to play NRL or kick pressure goals etc. He has proven he can do that.

For me the jury is out as to whether he is this outstanding player suppressed by the coach as many on the forum believe he is, McG is roundly criticised for being the problem ok, but still an exceptional player will still stand above the pack. I’m yet to see Zac play that really remarkable game , do something special. Step break tackles and sprint into the clear, charge through from 20 yards out and carry opposition players over the line with him etc. Even Aiken has done that on occasion.

Zac’s ability to for topline goal kicking is his outstanding feature at this stage.

The sharks uncovered Xerri last year who may be even younger than Zac. Now there is gifted player with frightening speed, who has shown what he can do, be it on the wing or centre. I’d take Xerri over Zac.

I think we are in for some more ordinary seasons. If Zac stays he will do best playing centre. I hope he is very successful this year. I also hope we don’t get caught paying overs to keep him.
I will keep saying he has to be centre. Those that keep pushing for him at fullback will see it is the wrong move just to accommodate him when the coach is too stubborn to move the encumbent centres. Look if he has 1st crack at fullback OK..give him a go but i cant see why he has deserved 1st crack at such a tough position. As I said before I will be over the moon if I am proved wrong and he kills it.
Dufty or Sailor can make it as natural fullbacks with a few naturals hot on their tail (Schiller and Ramsay)..they just need a better coach and game plans.
We have the ability to have a future top shelf spine. Our Illustrious club, coaches, pathways, recruitment better choose and test all of them out well and choose wisely. We wont keep them all.
This is critical to have a successful and roaring 20's

I reckon you will see Ramsay in 2021 D squad or training with 1st grade later this year. He is already well on their radar and will surprise a few more this year

You could be correct. He is a champion and has genuine pace

I would not bet on Mary going too soon whether we win games or not. A CEO is gone, Mary isn’t. Eight lower grade coaches and assistants are gone, not Mary. Something is wrong....he must have something on the Club..,.i can’t explain it any other way.

Didnt he paint the dressing rooms for free?

Cannot terminate someone before they have started their contract...I'd say that has a lot to do with it...

Things happening behind the scenes....lets just see what happens...The Shepherd appointment isn't a stamp of approval for Coach....
could not agree more

Lomax set for fullback but Dufty to stay and fight for spot

Zac Lomax has been taking a notepad to training as he prepares to spend a full pre-season focusing on playing fullback but Matt Dufty has vowed to stay and fight to regain the St George Illawarra No.1 jersey in 2020.

Dragons coach Paul McGregor has opted to give Lomax first shot in his preferred position of fullback next season ahead of Dufty and rookie Tristan Sailor after the shifting the 20-year-old star between centre, wing and the interchange in all but one of his previous 17 NRL appearances.

The decision enables Lomax to spend the summer training in the one position and leaves Dufty fighting for his future after being told that the Dragons would release him at the end of last season if he wanted to join another club.

After playing all 26 matches in 2018, Dufty found himself on the outer and only started at fullback while Gareth Widdop was sidelined by injury before being overlooked for selection for the last six rounds of the season.

“It’s Mary’s decision and I have got a lot to prove so I have just got to work hard and get that spot back,” Dufty said.

“The two years before last season I was playing great footy, I was in good form and just loving life. I don’t want to be feeling like I did last year and that’s one of the reasons it is good to be starting a new season.

“The club told me I could look elsewhere but they are definitely not forcing me and if something comes up I will think about it but at the moment my first priority is with the Dragons, and I still feel like I have got something to prove here and in the NRL.”

While they are rivals for the No.1 jersey, Dufty and Lomax are friends and the pair are helping each other at training.

Lomax grew up playing fullback and played the position for St George Illawarra’s under 20s team before making his NRL debut as an 18-year-old in 2018 but the Junior Kangaroos representative admits he has a lot to learn.

The Temora junior said McGregor and assistant coach Dean Young had been showing him video of rival playmakers to help with his positioning in defence and he has been taking a notepad to the sessions.

“It’s going to be a pre-season of learning lots, being a sponge and trying to soak up as much as I can and bringing my notepad,” Lomax said.

“Since I first came to grade fullback has always been the positon that I enjoyed the most or wanted to play the most and it has been a good transition for me into grade to play in different positions.

“I just had to do what was best for the team so I was learning different positions and I got to see the game from different perspective each week but I’d love to be able to cement a position down and focus on that one position week in and week out.”

Dufty grew up playing in the halves but is now established as a fullback and welcomed the competition with Lomax and Sailor.

“We have been training together and tipping each other up about things we have been doing wrong or doing right,” he said. “It’s a good culture to have a friendly rivalry, it makes us all work harder for that spot and it’s good to have that depth.

“I think I have just got to work hard and do those one percenters - catching balls on the full, being in there when there is a break made and just being involved for 80 minutes. If I do that I give myself every opportunity to get that spot back.

“It starts with training in the pre-season. I have got to work hard and just prove to everyone that I am the right man for the job.”

McGregor and Dean Young educating you in the the fullback position....oh my stars!!..Kiss of Death.
Rather Ben Hornby
Zac...dont do it mate...you got Flanno as your defensive coach..talk to him
Anyway Mcgregor playing everyone out of their potential best position...what a confused and stupid lot we have in charge of our coaches.
Flanno you can sign here now for 2021 as Mary wont be around.

Why would Mary call a key position so early when the competition should be on in earnest ? Could you imagine bellamy doing something like that last year W Pap, drink water and Hughes? Honestly just a dullard

I wonder what pecking order Sailor would be at the Storm??
What depth we have....
I think at the Storm he would be judged by his ability not by his name. So far I haven't seen too much from him that deserves the wraps put on him by some. He showed some potential but size is his issue, too small for a centre and seems to look like he fits the STGI fullback mould....Dufty, Field, Sailor etc etc. I think his long term position will be in the halves but he will run into a brick wall there with Norman and Hunt there. I think he is a NRL player, no doubt about it, but a superstar...meh. I hope we get to see his development beyond 2020 but I am fairly sure he will be Broncos bound.
