I rate him like that Penrith player (Sammut?), and Matt Bowen to an extent - great talent but probably too small to be absolutely top drawer. Players of that size that can cut it at the top are few and far between, Alf, ... can't think of another one.

Are you sure you're not confusing Zillman with someone else? NRL guide has him listed as 181cm and 90kg. That makes him one of the bigger fullbacks in the comp. I don't think you'd a fullback to be too much bigger than 90kgs.

Preston Campbell doesn't go too bad, and Paul Taylor was OK also.

Right. In Premier League.
Its a different kettle of fish when you've got to defend in the front line in NRL.

Thought so. That said, I do think he'd be a fantastic centre if he plays there, which is where I think he'll be playing as the Titans whilst they have "solid" centres are nothing more than that!

Dont understand why they would want him tbh. Isnt shannon Walker meant to be the next best thing? With Preston playing pretty well at fullback they will have 3 class fullbacks in the same side and thats not meantioning Rogers who wouldnt look out of place in the number 1

I thought Zillman was eventually aiming at being a 5/8, as this was the position he played coming up through the ranks?

Ah that sucks for Raiders fans, but I mean if it's any consolation the Tits are a bit dumb buying a player that's heading into his second knee recon.
He won't be the same..

Numerous articles said that he was most comfortable playing fullback (which i dont believe). That and the fact we have Carney, Dobson and Campese all competing for spots in the halves meant there was no other choice other than putting him at fullback. I'd say when he does go to the titans he'd probably play fullback with preston 5/8 or play 5/8 and push Rogers into the centres. I dont think he would be very effective in the centres.

He came from St. Laurence College, a private school in Brisbane. The Raiders developed him though. Quite a loss for Raiders fans however they should focus on the positives. If they continue to pursist with him, Bronx Goodwin could establish himself as a genuine entertainer. While on the other hand with so many players leaving they'll have some cash to throw at some big name players.

does anyone know if he is a dickhead. most titans are.:lol::lol:

One of the best blokes in the NRL.
Smart, articulate and very polite and well mannered.
Great kid.

Zillman wouldnt be very effective at all at centre, he'll almost certainly play fullback, but it wouldnt surprise me if they give him a run at 5/8th
its not as if they have a cut and dry pivot option.

Zillman signs with Titans
April 07, 2008

CANBERRA fullback Will Zillman has signed a four-year deal with the Gold Coast, with the 21-year-old set to join the Titans in 2009

A desire to move home was the key reason enticing the young star to the Titans, with Zillman’s family living in south east Queensland.

“I am really excited about the prospect of joining the Gold Coast Titans and I have always had a desire to come home to Queensland and play in the NRL,” Zillman said.

“My family lives in south east Queensland and being able to play in front of them every second week will be really special for my family and I," he said.

Zillman had a breakout season in 2007, where he played 19 games and scored nine tries until he injured his anterior cruciate ligament against North Queensland.

The enigmatic player had only just returned to the Canberra line-up before suffering his second season ending knee injury against Penrith in March.

Titans managing director, Michael Searle, says that the club is excited about having the young fullback despite his injury setbacks.

“William is a fantastic young man and a Queenslander who will be a great ambassador for the Titans and rugby league for many years to come,” he said.

“We have met with his family and they are all excited about the prospect of William coming home and we are pleased to have a young man of such calibre joining our Club. William is a future star in our game," he said.

Zillman made his debut for the Raiders in Round 2, 2006 and has played 24 games with the club, scoring 12 tries.

As big of a fan of him as I am, four years is extremely risky when you've just had two knee reco's...

agreed IBG
reading between the lines, i think maybe after 2 recos in 3 games on the same knee, the raiders were not willing to risk giving him as many years or dollars as he'd have liked. The titans feel he's a risk worth taking, 4 years, good dollars and the added incentive of being close to family made it an easy decision for Zillman

He's got potential, but perhaps a bit too injury prone. Feel sorry for the Raiders.

As I said in the Raiders forum, I'm numb to this - I normally would be furious.

What's the point in the Raiders bothering with developing players anymore? It's clearly just a shopping centre for every other club with no heart or junior system. We could find and develop 4 immortals that came through together, but they'd all be poached within 5 minute of one another - so I say it again, why bother?
