I know a guy who goes to all the Panthers games and he is an ex-coach. He reckons Baz looks very sharp indeed and is very switeched on. The players all look up to him and he has them playing with great structure. Best of all he has them all playing for him. He has been very impressed in how he approaches the players and is not suprised to see them going as well as they are under Baz.

what you talking about .. under 20's?
yes of course kids would look up to a previous NRL/rep star.... however get him coaching grown men who are experienced first graders and it would be an accident waiting to happen....

Trent 'The Face' Barrett. Had a chance to come back to the Dragons to win a comp, instead opted for the scum. Wise choice for both him and us.

I believe Barrets excuse was the fishbowl scrutiny of the Dragons fans he did not want. So he opted for Sharks. There seems to be god given right every assistant can be head coach? Does not work out in life and career so why is it always pushed in Sport?

My tip is Mary/Potter next year to coach the Dragons, with Tim Sheen to reunite with Sticky and help him out at Canberra as Coaching Director.

Does that mean if we lose to the Titans he will not be the preferred best candidate for 2015 anymore...but if we beat the Broncos the following week he will be preferred again...

If the coaching decision is a week by week proposition depending on who we beat from one week to the next...HEAVEN HELP US.

I would hope a range of potential candidates have ben interviewed and the preferred one with the best credentials made an offer.

I've made this exact point only to be ridiculed by the likes of Bottle and GT, intellectual giants of the forum.

Incompetence in the boardroom breeds mediocrity on the field.

It's a fair question. I note that you haven't gone so far as to assert it is fact, wise on your part. However it is based upon extrapolating upon a single post in a forum which may or may not be true.

There is simply no evidence to suggest there is any 'week by week' assessment process in place. It's a fantasy created by some, sure. That is only to support their own bias it should be noted.

Like you I hope the decision is based on a holistic results based set of criteria, and that a number of candidates are being canvassed..

I don't recall commenting on any of your posts and I do apologize if you felt ridiculed as that's rarely my intention unless I can see that someone has stuck the boot into someone else without cause. I'm sure you wouldn't do that OV. On behalf of Bottle & myself we thank you for your appraisal of our intellect. I suspected I was wasting my time with IQ tests when all I had to do was approach you for qualified objective view. Should I call you Dr or Professor if I bump into you at MENSA?

I'm sure that is the case. We as fans tend to be quite emotional & ride the roller coaster of wins & losses and doubt/hope the board doesn't make decisions based on week to week performances. Hasler recently lost 4 in a row and I regard him highly as a coach, I don't think Mary has that luxury but will have to reach KPI's in order to be offered the job in the first place and I can only guess they will be based on the season proper. If he's then considered he will still have to compete with other candidates. I've seen no evidence that he is being judged on a week to week basis only forum talk.

Although I've joked about give him the keys to the city after breaking the hoodoo I wouldn't imagine that one game will have much bearing on his fate

FFS Bottle, what holistic results based set of criteria could be applied to Mary?! He's coached for an entire 10 games no less.

HE DOESN'T QUALIFY FOR CONSIDERATION.

The rationale in here sometimes beggars belief.

Over the past 3 years the Dragons have fallen to such depths that any win seems like a major event.

Let's not kid ourselves; our football team is wallowing in the bottom 8 mainly because of management decisions made on coaching staff and recruitment. For the Board to stick with a usless coach like Price and at the same time begin the season with so many fringe forwards would be the main reason for the Dragons being outside the 8 so late in the season..

Management rated Price above Mary and so appointed Price as coach and Mary as Prices assistant. Management sacked Price for not being up to standard and appointed Mary as interim coach – probably the most logical thing to do. However, to appoint Mary (who in the Boards eyes was not as good as Price) as our head coach for 2015 and beyond is a ridiculous suggestion and in my opinion, not in the best interest of our Club.

Surely members really don’t believe that Mary could solve the teams problems and lift us into the top 4 where we belong.

The only reason for the Board to consider Mary for the head coach position would be more to do with economics than team success. Paying low salary and buying time until better days seems to be their preferred policy. A policy like this makes it very clear that those in charge are not up to the job.

Members, just imagine what it would be like if at round 6 in 2015 we are one of the bottom 4 teams in the competition and the currently available experienced coaches are committed elswere. Just another wasted season of football.

Heard on the grill team this morning from "supergrass" (who i think gets pretty close to the mark) that the Dragons are close to signing Sheens with Barrett as assistant. If true i'm happy about Sheens but not sold on Barrett. :?
