You didn't answer the question. Why is it that conservatives in the UK believe the position of science in the UK, however their counterparts in AU do not ? It's a tad too simplistic and naive to suggest that they were simply hoodwinked and bought the hoax hook line and sinker.

People believe the science that suits them. The British economy isn't going to suffer too much from the climate-industrial complex, so there's no harm in going along with whichever moral panic is currently fashionable.

Evil or stupid is your label. Plato said that prudence is the chief among values. Australian Conservatives prefer the devil they know, rather than the devil they don’t know. So financial prudence and moral caution is what they know best. The conundrum is why the British Conservatives found comfort in the transition to renewables. John Howard introduced an Emissions Trading Scheme in 2007 - around the time that the Brits commenced their step away from coal. His words ...

He was born wealthy. Even after losing squillions in a casino and other business ventures. Banks would not touch him with a 10 foot pole, hence why he had to borrow from Russian Oligarchs. He’s a fairly decent property developer, but based on his inability to borrow a dime from any US bank, he isn’t as good as he thinks he is.
