As you were writing this you were plucking a few tissues out of the box & popping the lid on the Baby oil

Theres the truth, and then theres the truth. Hes made some poor calls, sure, but the league as a whole is in better position now than it was before he took over. Not every league has to be the AFL or will be the AFL.

And the AFL was never going to sit around and just watch the NRL rise either.

CBA negotiations are almost never as terrible as media reports would have you believe, and all reports have it as almost done....sooo no big deal.
NSW Govt stadium thing...well that was just naive on his part
TV deal - could have been better, and his reasoning was downright stupid - BUT STILL A RECORD TV DEAL

Always room for improvement - as others have said, theres sponsor deals and an increase in rights coming this year. For all issues, theres still in record revenue, delivering big profits, building assets. Audiences are up, Support is up. Especially given the impact of COVID. Im not sure where the downside is really.
An exceptional post. Thank you.

Not sure where to put this but the NRL extending their sponsorship with KFC for another five years.

"The new deal extends across all major NRL and NRL Women’s (NRLW) assets, including the Finals Series, Grand Finals, men’s and women’s State of Origin, men’s and women’s Domestic Test Matches, and the Australian Kangaroos and Jillaroos teams.

KFC will become the official Fried Night Footy™ naming rights sponsor of Friday Night Football from the 2023 NRL Telstra Premiership season. It will also become the official naming rights sponsor of KFC Monday Football matches."

I expect there would have been a significant upgrade with this as well.

Well with that, and the Roosters major sponsor being Steggles as well as also having a sponsorship with Red Rooster, we just need someone else to get a sponsorship with Inghams and league will have the whole poultry market sown up :)

That was a cracking game to kick off the 2023 season...
Thanks PVL,you're a f**kn champion!
I think some of the long stretches of uninterrupted action really add to the fatigue in matches like that, and it gets to the point that reminds me of games long ago where they become real knock-down and drag-em out affairs, with teams trying anything to win or just hanging in there. Just what the new rules were meant for, congratulations to both teams, bottler of a game.
