V`Landys says a lot of things and sometimes it`s hard to know when he`s serious and when he`s just mouthing off, but I`m starting to think maybe his line that all the bids were just taking the bid process for granted (taking the piss, is probably would have liked to say) falls into the category where he was deadly serious. He did appear very serious, even angry, at the time he said it.It’s not like he is in Christchurch every week though …I dont think it’s too big a deal to spend an hour each with the three bids and then meet up with the Mayor…he probably won’t be back there in the next year at least …

I just wonder how many chancers were salivating at the thought of that $17m NRL grant and the fat CEO salary they could award themselves, and their mates, until the whole tin-pot organisation they were (half)planning fell over and the NRL were left with egg all over their face.
So we had 11 or 12 bids and only 1 is considered acceptable as it is gold plated using Australian taxpayers money. If the NRL didn't want a Brisbane based team to canabolise the existing teams in SE Qld, surely that should have been communicated upfront or was it and Brisbane East's ignored it. Will Brisbane East's be required to pay a licence fee if they ever enter or are they bringing established pathways which is considered sufficient and the don't have to pay a fee or a smaller amount? Although they have a reported $25m in cash, can't see them handing over $20m to be divided up to the existing clubs.
11 EoI’s8 or 9 bids I believe … a couple of interested parties didn’t bother and saved themselves the time and money….luckily for them in hindsight I guess ..
Is this the correct way to go conduct an expansion process I wonder ? shouldn’t the NRL be targeting the areas they want to expand to …rather than just have some open free for all and run the risk of getting the best bids from places you dont want to really expand too?
Sounds pretty dumb …
Yeh pvl should just accept bids even if they don’t meet the criteria required11 EoI’s
9 Bids submitted
1 that clubs, players, coaches and Aus fans didn’t want got approved
nrl back to the drawing board trying to figure out what it does now
outstanding result!
maybe they should have spelt out the criteria required in more detail to everyone and saved peoples time and money and their own disappointment?Yeh pvl should just accept bids even if they don’t meet the criteria required

Quite clearly they didnt. They left the questions very ambiguous by the sounds of it. ' How much would you pay for a license fee' when they had a $20mill figure that was required is just as dumb as it gets. They did
How do you think the bidders knew what to put in their bid documents lol
Just some ignored what they were told and left some boxes empty
Beattie told your old mate twice had had to pay a signicant feeQuite clearly they didnt. They left the questions very ambiguous by the sounds of it. ' How much would you pay for a license fee' when they had a $20mill figure that was required is just as dumb as it gets.
If they had in their heads set $ amounts that were required of any bid they should have been specified in the tender doc, not left to subjective interpretation for the NRl to then at the end of say no you didnt meet our expectations even though we didnt tell you those expectations! The fact we had 8 unsuccessful bids and the only one being successful was a massive outlier of a bid with stupid money being thrown at it by the govt is pretty telling.
Like the NZ article said, it feels very much like a fishing exercise rather than a genuine attempt to choose 3 new clubs for the NRL.
OR something drastic changed after submissions closed. Either TV not looking like they want to pay big $'s for a 20 team comp, or Clubs demanding a fee bigger than NRL anticipated, or both. I guess we will never know.
They are still fishing Id suggest, hence the follow on meeting with the WA Govt and the ludicrous $120mill ask. Maybe of the NZ bids they were the only one that looked like they have any cash behind them and he was asking them to find a $20mill license fee, who knows?Beattie told your old mate twice had had to pay a signicant fee
He thought he’d be a smarty arse and put zero thinking they would settle for a few million
Why are you ignoring him meeting chalmers and searle if he has no interest in nz 2
The article that set everyone off really did sound like a rant by a jilted loverThey are still fishing Id suggest, hence the follow on meeting with the WA Govt and the ludicrous $120mill ask. Maybe he was reading the writing on the wall and sees it as yet another NRL snub of NZ?The article that set everyone off really did sound like a rant by a jilted lover
When he met up with chalmers and searle who are involved in an nz bid (albeit a poor one)Maybe he was reading the writing on the wall and sees it as yet another NRL snub of NZ?

I've seen lot of comments rating his kicking game, which is nice to hear because we've needed a good tactical kicker - with more in the repertoire than just "Hail Mary kick to the winger" - for some time.
And bunty afoa to super league
