Thank you Woodsy for poking Billy.. It galvanised Queensland to win this series
Why didn't it work last year when Madge rattled his cage?

Billy= shows the signs of being a skilled coach.
Madge= proven winner. Can coach.
Laurie= phenomenal player for club, state and country. Can't coach.

Spot the odd one out...

There's this guy named Kaeo Weekes who's playing for the competition leaders and just scored 3 tries on the weekend, 2 of them long range while showing off his superior speed to all other nsw backs.

Weekes is good. Don't think he's Origin material though.

What gets me is that they picked him because they said he was more mature and learned from his mistakes. Did he though? It was the same old same old from when he was in charge last time. Completely blew it. He's only won 1 series in what is now 6 series. Worst record ever.

Did the NSWRL board think anyone would be good as a coach because of the players?

Get a fresh face in, get some new blood, make them more passionate to play for the Blues.
Gus was talking about NRL club culture a while ago and said it takes 18 months to build a club and 18 months to destroy one.

In Origin it takes less than 12 months.

Even NSW under Freddy that last series of his vs Madge last year...

I would prefer Gus came back next series, or Sticky juggles the Blues job with his Raiders commitments or Bellyache suck it up and go all-out vs. his Storm players- than see Laurie Daley coach another series.

Threw away 2013, won 2014 off the back of the playing group and Jarryd Hayne at his peak. Got smashed in the 2015 decider, would have been swept in 2016 were it not for some of the most one-sided refereeing and a miracle try in Game 3, threw away 2017, threw away the 2025 decider.

Laurie is a people-pleaser, everyone likes him. But I suspect he lets the players run the show in Origin camp, and it showed on the field tonight...

If the NSWRL are serious about turning a corner and avoiding mistakes past, they get somebody else to lead next series.

Honestly if you’re after a Madge like personality you could do worse than Des Hasler. Des I think has a similar obsessive tendencies as Madge which evidently isn’t great as a day in day out coach but I think given his pedigree as a multiple premiership winning coach, former nsw player and just not being Laurie Daley it could work.

Absolutely, I would have had him as my smoky pick from Game 1

Koloamatangi and Terrell May should have been there as well. The bench has been horrid, even Hudson Young who's a gun when he has the communal brain is not really a benchie, he starts or sits out IMO
The problem with NSW is the club you play for is always more important than talent or form.

Just imagine Stefano accepted the million dollar offer from the Tigers and played exactly the same this year, while May ended up at the Storm
And played exactly the same. Who do you think would have been picked by Lozza (with Bellamy in his ear).

And I have no idea what Keaon has done to piss off NSW selectors.

Yeah Des is another one. He'd also feel like he had a point to prove after the Titans.

Slater has aspirations on an NRL coaching gig. So did Madge. Freddy didn't really have a point to prove and Laurie was meant to, but has shown he really isn't up to it. Like Kevin Walters, just because you were a great player and passionate about your club/ state doesn't mean you can get the job done.

Slater has stated publicly several times he has no designs on a club coaching role.

I know attacking stats aren’t the be all and end all but FMD Nathan Cleary this series
3 games
0 tries
0 line breaks
0 try assists
0 line break assists

Very hard to win a series if you’re halfback is incapable of creating anything in attack
He’s played 10 more origins than Moses for one fewer try assist.

Nathan Piss.
