Why little mention of the CQ NRL bid?

Should the NRL introduce two new teams

This is a popular view within the Broncos hating Brisbane community:

Geoff Murphy must be either naive or is under the age of 25.
What the Bronco's are doing now is EXACTLY the same thing they did to the competition 25 years ago .

They are protecting their interests against the interests of the fans.
Those who do not wish to support the Broncos here in Brisbane have no other option.
Although the good part is that I can spend my $s supporting other codes here in Brisbane.

I don't buy this, the Gold Coast titans are 45-60 minutes away. I travel that distance to see my team.

Compared to the distance CQ fans have to travel, its really a no contest.

Where would that leave the Central Coast bid then with at least seven existing teams based within a 70km radius of the southern ingoal at Bluetongue? (as measured using Google Earth) Even Penrith and Cronulla are right on 70km as the crow flies and I haven't counted them.

What a load of bollocks. I've met Denis keefe a few times and he is an absolute champion, but that news
bit was utter crap, 745mil?????? Over how long??? I've seen reports that the Cowboys bring in 70 odd mil a year in Tvl, if they even try to suggest that 745mil is over a year period then they are full of sh*t.

You have to take job creation figures with a large helping of salt. 3000 jobs (I believe that figure is too high) may be created but only a tiny portion of those jobs will be sustained for long periods.

The construction of the stadium is an example of this. The installation of a light tower may require 100 people (electricians, welders, engineers, crane operators, truck drivers etc) but once the job is finished these positions are no longer there. Likewise, food and accomodation outlets may employ extra people to cater for these 100 people but once the project finishes these jobs will also go. Politicians and bids love talking about job creation because it makes things look a lot bigger than job sustainability figures.

As for the $745 million, the extra activity of an NRL bid will stimulate economic growth but I think this figure must be over a very long term.

I think CQLD is a long shot for 2013/4 but 2020 could see them with a real hope.

Word is that State Opposition leader Campbell Newman has agreed to fund a stadium in Rocky if elected.

Major tick for the bid there.

As long as he builds a stadium and not a tunnel.

Can-do has a great track record when it comes to tunnels.

I make it no secret that I'm not a fan of CQLD bid but:

"playing from a state-of-the-art 20,000 seat stadium which has the backing of the Queensland Government."

... 20k is not enough for an NRL venue, not in one that wishes to join in that is.

That's just being harsh. 20k for that area would be great, they wouldn't sell it out that often anyway. And if they did it would be great for the NRL to have 12 sells outs from one team every year.

too small a population and adds too little to TV deal, they are a long way 4th at the moment and have nothing value adding that the others don't also bring but with much more besides.

Well just further points out how small (spread out) the area really is. With the expectation of bigger crowds in the future I would expect the IC to demand new entry clubs to accommodate this, with 25-30k the preference.

Perth - 20k with upgrade confirmed.
CC - 20k with potential (IMO likely if they enter )upgrade to 25k.
Bris2 - Suncorp... more than enough.

Recently the CQ NRL Bid Chairman, Geoff Murphy accused some Bids as being selfish and dismissive and these current critical outbursts only confirm Geoff's opinion.

While the CQ NRL Bid had an expected launch date of 2014, we appreciate the valid reasons clearly articulated by David Gallop in his 2015 suggestion. We have expressed our support of his position for no other reason than this date makes sense.

When enormous change occurs in any venture or business the operatives must be sure that all procedures and processes have been fully researched and any perceived discrepancies eliminated. This process is referred to as "performing risk assessment" and sometimes many scenarios have to be tested and outcomes evaluated before "change" is implemented.

NRL expansion is no different. The planning has to be meticulous because the numbers of operating units are incredible. The right people have to be recruited and trained, buildings have to be built, and the business side of the operation has to be thoroughly tested in the market for effectiveness, and sustainability.

The CQ NRL team will be competitive from the very start, and it will be play its home games in a magnificent new, world class stadium. All of this will take time to get absolutely right. The process has actually commenced already and many of the vast number of operational elements have been identified and the planning has started.

Central Queensland's bid for an NRL Team has received a major boost with a number of coal industry companies committing to providing $440,000 in funding towards the development of the Bid's Business Plan.

In a significant coup for the CQ NRL Bid prominent coal companies BMA, Jellinbah Group and Cockatoo Coal, together with QR National and Gladstone Ports Corporation will join forces to provide financial support to the Bid.

These companies have also indicated that while the bid is being developed, they will look to work with other coal companies and suppliers in seeking to bring together the necessary sponsorship for the team.

we dont need anther qld team

I disagree. Queensland is a RL stronghold that's majorly under-represented in the current competition (as is New Zealand, now the Warriors are running well)

I personally believe that the next expansion round will be Perth & one Queensland team... now as to WHERE in Queensland, that's the huge question!
