Bring Back Brian Smith

If he can control the club like Bennett style and he gets rid of this "jobs for the boys" thing, then I vote YES. It more about bringing the winning culture and discipline back to the club. Bennett style. Not just a change of coach.

Dino,

92-93 Grand finalists against a SOO Bronco's.
2001 Parra minor premiers, lost to Andrew Johns.
2010 Chooks GF...
1996, Bradford Bulls to the Challenge Cup final with a winning % of 77.

Not a bad resume.

The way we are being coached at the moment we don't have to worry about getting beaten in any grand finals!
P.S. I'm not a real Smith fan but, compared to Price?

Yes to Smith
Yes to Sheens

If Smith is appointed as Dragons head coach he would turn the team into a well disciplined side that 'can think' on the field. Well drilled defence and great attacking combinations are what you can expect from him. Well thought out game plans that change from game to game are also a feature of his coaching ability.

It is true he has not won a grand final however, he would be right up there with those coaches who have had teams who participated in a grand final.

Smith has a history of fading away after two or three season so it would be my advice that the Dragons should sign him on a two to three year deal.

Sheens has been a successful coach and he is the current Australian coach. The ARL has demonstrated their confidence in his coaching ability by extending his contract in the last few weeks. It is my view that as a coach he would be a vast improvement on what we have now. Sign him to a three year deal and I am sure we would quickly become a competitive Club again.

Smith or Sheens would be a vast improvement on what we have now. The big barrier in signing one of these guys is Doust. Doust is a control freak who likes to control everything. In the case of rookie Price and before Bennett coach Brown, he could satisfy is urge for excessive control. But with Smith or Sheens it would be a completely different situation. Like most top coaches they would want control of most things regarding their NRL squad. e.g. last say on player recruitment, retention and other important things like fitness programs and game preparation/motivation activities.

Good post Possm. I would also accept Nathan Brown if & when the club decides to change coaches

I would like to see our Club sign Brown as a follow-on coach to either Smith or Sheens. Brown who has now had heaps of experience, would be a great signing once Smith or Sheens has made the Dragons competitive again.

Yes, yes take your pick Brian or Tony would be a positive step in the right direction. Unfortunately, whilst Albert Young remains in the power base of the Club, then I can't see Brian coming on board. Considering that Smith replaced Young as coach and banished from the inner circle whislt he restored the teams performance. For him to return then Young may have to bite the bullet again. IMO both Doust & Young seem untouchable, hence Brian may miss out but brother Tony could be a remote possibility.

Preferably Smith, by a long shot. Would then like to see him slot into a Coaching Directors role or similar, with a Brown/Taylor/Dymmock type as coach

Not that great either. More important is his career average win / loss of 54%. At Bradford he had an outstanding squad of players and still managed to pull defeat from the jaws of victory. At the Roosters I'm not sure how much input he had into recruiting but that was the major reason for their rise from the ashes. Don't talk to me about '92-3, I need more time.

He can get a team to perform alright, making GF's are not easy. 92-93 against the Queensland backline and most of their forwards. 2001, was plain sad for the guy and 2010 they ran into the Mighty's enough said. 2013 Roosters playing roster is far superior to 2010 bar Todd Carney who I can't be certain is a better player than Maloney anyway. If anyone can get the best out of a team it's Brian Smith and the next time he makes a GF he can win it, I don't buy into the theory that he can't win GF's.

This is exactly the problem we are facing. With Doust and Co at the relm nothing will
Change. No external pressure or external coaches will be bought to run the club. He is all about "organic growth" that has gotten us nowhere. Yes he signed Bennett, but you can say he practically fell in our lap. What were we the 5th club in line to get him after ditching the Roosters, Cowboys, and possibley the Dogs???, He didn't even wrap that one up properly by giving the master coach 3 years. Doust and Co need to go. Wow that actually make a good banner.
