Bring Back Brian Smith

were u at that meeting bottle?

No, but the quote rings in my head every time I hear his name mentioned in conjunction with us.

I think his best is well passed by. He can not maintain tenure at any club because he micro manages to the extreme. This creates friction. He would likely cost us some players because they don't tolerate that these days.

For all of his disciplinary nature, Bennett did not micro manage, in fact quite the opposite. Read Tallis' book for more insight into the differences between the two.

That's right!! Smith ditched us at the end of 95 as he thought we werent going to survive the Super League war.

No to B Smith.

My first choice would be Jason Taylor.

B.Smith didn't ditch the Dragons and his goal was to be the Dragons longest serving coach. He was very disappointed to have to leave. Brian told me this personally while he was coaching the Eels. He said his heart would always be with the Dragons. I'm not giving up on Price yet but Smith has got more sides to a GF that most. I like Brown as well but I think if Doust wld choose Sheens

Forget both Smith & Sheens, it won't happen. Doust had the chance to go for Henry, Sheens, Arthur, Taylor, Walters after our half price of a coach stuffed up for a 2nd consecutive year. He chose not to sign any of these when they were available. Unless someone falls into his lap again like Bennett then I feel we are stuck with Price for the year. If he stuffs up the early 8 rounds then he will be replaced with a caretaker in Millward. Doust will be hoping that St. Helens have a good year & that may warrant the return of Browny a organic solution.

No offence meant, but thats one guys book i wouldn't read.
Point taken though.

I know what you mean. I wouldn't buy it because I wouldn't want to give the crumb the money. However if you get a chance to 'peruse' it for free there is some interesting stuff about our club and various coaches.

Smith?
Smells like Newtown.

Well said, bottle. I've loathed him ever since that remark about us having the smell of Newtown about us. Just one more rat off a ship he perceived to be sinking.

As for Jason Taylor, if he's such a gun coach why is no-one else beating a path to his door? At the moment, of all the options put forward, I'd take Nathan Brown. The boys could do with a little slap in the face to wake the buggers up.

Ask Dino this question, your pick out of Price and Smith would be????
A no brainer. smith by a long shot. however hes a journeyman and there lies the quandary HOW MANY COACHES HAVE COACHED A TEAM, LEFT WITHOUT A PRIEMIERSHIP AND HAVE COME BACK TO COACH THE SAME TEAM TO GLORY. I will stand corrected but I will say none. I even cant think of a coach that has come back after a stint EVER.

Can't believe people want nathan brown back. We need someone from outside the club who can come in and change things up. Brown had his chance with an allstar saints team and couldn't get the job done.

Brian Wanted to ditch us hey, so did the board wanting to merge with the rorters, remember short memories, The Mighty Sydney City Dragsters, at the end of the day there was a total lack of respect for the successful St George Dragons, At the time people like Gordan Tallis was offered so much coin that he dogged us for the money. Good old thug Rocket Reddy was guaranteed a full time gig at the Adelaide rams, there was so much crap and uncertainty in the world of rugby league at the time, it was everyman for himself.

Dragonrick - Agree about getting someone external. That's what we need. An unfamiliar face that can restore discipline without the "mates" tag. If we get new management and CEO, then I'm all for Browny to come back.

Smith has not won a grand final. Imagine, just imagine with a solid team if dragons on paper if he did...against the knights/ Bennet. Would go down as the ultimate redemption. Rugby league story of the last 30 years. Bring him on I say. Old school teacher. He has taken teams to the biggest game of the year and in the end it's the players who play those games. Pretty easy to write off a coach.

If Saints had a brain they would because he will only help prepare Hornby and Young when they eventually take over which is what you think is what Saints are aiming for in the long run. Alot of good coaches have come from Sheens and Smithy so it just makes sense to give these 2 coaches (Smith or Sheens) a 2 year contract and if all goes good extend, if not Hornby and Young would surely be ready when their contracts are up.

Nathan Hindmarsh talks up Smithy so he must be pretty good. The only guys that bag him are Tallis, Mundine etc. Guys with huge ego's and Smithy probably put them in place that is why because he has the balls to do so not play Mr Nice guy all the time.

If Brian Smith comes on board watch the odds change from wooden spooners to top 8 because people know Saints have the squad but the coach is holding them back.
