Meh... just give him a coaching gig like Roosters have done with Cronk. Maybe Cronk cashed out that Harvard education?

Yeah obviously Cronk's appointment by the Roosters to a halves coaching position is a sham as he clearly has no aptitude for coaching  They don't pay the education grant in cash either.

Are you suggesting that if Souths gave Surgess a forwards coaching gig that it would be a sham?

From Foxsports.com.au:

The 10-year plan to keep Sam Burgess a Bunny in an administration role

Retired South Sydney rugby league star Sam Burgess is set to be employed in a highly paid administration role by the NRL club.
News Corp reported that English forward Burgess — who had to give the game away because of a shoulder injury — will earn as much as $360,000 a season over 10 years in the job.

That would take him up to the amount he was set to receive as a contracted player over the next three years.

Souths are reportedly waiting on their request to medically retire Burgess from the game before signing off on a deal for the 30 year-old.

That could happen as soon as the end of the week.

The role reportedly involves football administration, recuitment and working with sponsors.

“There’s nothing official to say just yet,” Burgess told The Daily Telegraph. “We are working through the deal at the moment and I am excited at the prospect of developing further skills off the field.”

FML they get away with murder.

Can the 'Dogs then retire Foran, not pay out his contract under the cap, and give him a 2 year halves position coach, for say... 500k per year?

That's exactly what they could do. Expect some massive rorts of this type if souffs can get away with it twice

I said it earlier in the thread and people said it would never happen, but what is stopping a club offering the best young player in the game a 20 year contract? Then just have them retire when they get to 32/33 and they have a guarenteed 'coaching job' for the next 7-8

would that be a bad thing for players? It extends their earning capacity from the game. It’s kind of been happening for years anyway, look at how many ex players are employed by clubs.

It's signed, sealed and endorsed systematic salary cap cheating
And every club should be taking notes and acting accordingly. The Raiders are currently negotiating an extension for Jarrod Croker, at 29, we'd be utterly stupid not to double his years and half his cap hit knowing a medical retirement can be achieved and a cushy office job given to him to ensure he never misses a cent.

Will help us give Bateman and Wighton the upgrades they're seeking

SMH. I cant get away from the fact that the Tigers have been fined and had their Salary Cap reduced for two years for offering Farah a job after his career was finished....when they were trying to get rid of him to another club.

Souffs get away with this twice! This is what is wrong with the NRL. Greenburg is pissweak.

Its way worse, because it is applied unevenly and undemocratically. Souffs get away with it, Tigers get penalised for it.

I think you are missing a big point here. Souffs with Burgess and also Inglis are circumventing the whole "medical retirement clearance" issue. It is not a medical clearance. What Souffs are saying with Burgess and Inglis is that they are not getting medical clearance, Burgess and Inglis retire and totally forego their contract payment, but coincidentally get a bullshit after career job for the same money.

Also Harry Trigabouff wanted to become a TP sponsor for our players, however was knocked back because he used to sponsor the club...in 2000-01

And people still say these aren’t a rort

You do not even know what you are talking about.

If Souths paid $3.6m as a lump sum or $360k a year for role , how does that change your perception of the coming salary cap decision ?

The answer is there is NO real difference , except I read it as that instead of paying Sam $1.2m per season to play ..........Souths honour the contract of $3.6m , however have agreed with Sam to spread it over 10 years. Good for Souths cash flow and gives Sam an ongoing job/career opportunity.

This announcement has nothing to do with salary cap decision , it is just how Souths will ensure Sam gets his contract money.

I understood Tigers offered Farrar a contract which essentially was ( not correct figures , you can research it , but they highlight the issue) play for two year for $200k pa and then we give you a job for two years for $500 k Pa. This is a rort

Souths had a bona fida contract with Sam signed Oct 2018 . He gets injured early in season , had what is supposed to be a minor surgery fix mid season , worse than thought , gone by end of season,
Souths commit to pay his full contract out and seek the retirement payments for 2020/21/22 to be excluded from salary cap. There was NEVER any sort in the first place with the contract. He got injured.

As for the job now , instead of paying Sam out full contract value in one go $3.6m , they are trying to set it up over 10 years with a job. Pretty good conclusion for both parties.

If you cannot see the difference ..........you must be a ONE eyed tiger.

Yeah that whole thing was a joke.

What’s good for some, isn’t acceptable for others.
