    Gallop's view on juniors

Yes, I think the Dragons would be very happy with a $3mil cap on OUTSIDE players and no limit on local juniors. I'd say quite a few clubs would be happy with that - those that aren't would be the ones that contribute nothing to future of the game.

    Gallop's view on juniors

I think you totally miss the point. If clubs aren't happy they can take action and... develop better juniors! If they don't get a good return on their juniors... sack the development team! With a better TV deal the NRL could hand out junior development funding and clubs could spend it inside...

    Gallop's view on juniors

NZ would be ripe for a new team or open to relocation. Why should Melbourne receive cap concessions??? You answered that yourself! First you say "...why should they get more money because News Ltd decided to try and expand the game." Then the very next sentence you say: " Its not going to...

    Gallop's view on juniors

Add to that, Canberra, St George Illawarra, Newcastle and Penrith would do well too. The Central Coast (perhaps with the Bears?) would be strong as well. Maybe even the Wests Tigers. Melbourne would have salary cap concessions as they're a "developing territory". Anyone else can either stick...

    Gallop's view on juniors

No, not at all. With no cap on juniors, you might use one of your sponsors to help top up a local hero's pay packet and keep him. No sporting club is going to waste money / resources keeping someone, and there'd be nothing stopping a bloke from wanting to go somewhere else either. As for...

    Financial Plight of Clubs

And why isn't our game beating it's chest about this??? The AFL plonk two satellite teams in their "developing states" (which no one takes any notice of), states which account for more than half the national population yet WE publicly announce them as the "national game". The NRL CEO should be...

    Gallop's view on juniors

On the Footy Show, Gould suggested that a salary cap be used only for signing outside players - non-juniors. Meaning clubs can do whatever they like to keep players they've developed. Gallop's response... "Club's like Penrith have 10 thousand juniors and it wouldn't be fair on clubs like the...

    Financial Plight of Clubs

I think the point about Rugby League having a greater profile is referring to the fact that NSW and QLD account for more than half of the national population. So if Rugby League was run by people with half a brain, they'd ensure we had a decent TV deal that saw coverage Australia wide...

Fireworks failing to spark ticket sales

Most people won't agree with me, but I think that it would be good if a "home" grand final was up for grabs. Perhaps a top 5 where the team that wins through the fortnight before the GF hosts the Grand Final in their home state... NSW: ANZ QLD: Suncorp VIC: Telstra Dome NZ: ? Not only...

    Financial Plight of Clubs

You're absolutely right. Basically, the NRL, right across the board, try to drag everyone down to the lowest common denominator. Take the salary cap for example. Instead of making it affordable for the strugglers as they do now (and block new exciting markets from entering), it should be...

The annual finals system debate thread

What's wrong with the way things are now? An entire season's effort means nothing after week 1. Why should the loser of 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3 get an extra advantage? Because the lower teams shouldn't receive an advantage for one good game over higher ranked sides - teams that are more deserved of...

    Best Ref Ever

McCallum... argh! He hated us. Or maybe he just rubbed us out in 1992 because a few weeks earlier him and the touchies awarded Wishy a kick that he actually missed from almost in front!
