Points Cap Instead of Salary Cap

Just exempt all "local juniors" from the salary cap (and lower the cap for spending on outside players, except Melbourne obviously) = also, allow 3rd party agreements for local juniors. Then clubs and sponsors would be channelling their $$$ into the grassroots... and clubs without juniors would...

Game needs drastic overhaul, says Ribot

No Illawarra / South Coast representation... but a team for Ipswich?

Gus Gould made a good point the other day

I was going to ask the same question.

Game needs drastic overhaul, says Ribot

Highly unlikely... but I think it would work. The New-NRL would set up team locations for groups/consortiums to bid for, initial set up 10-12 teams, then couple of years later 14-16 = all new teams in every major population centre, something we actually have a headstart over the AFL with...

2008 Crowd Watch - Final Totals in Post #3778

We'll certainly out rate the AFL on TV. There's a totally different culture in league - more tribal. Something that we will overcome one day, hopefully soon though.

Friday Night Football becoming a dud

Agree 100%. Move 5:30 game. On top of that, give Fox a Friday night game and Nine the Saturday arvo game. For Friday, get both stations to show a replay of the other game at 9:30, giving fans choice. Would be worth negotiating something like that, particularly good for interstate fans and...

Friday Night Football becoming a dud

I never bought that, what a load of BS. Also, the only Saturday arvo games they had at one stage were Storm games. For a while too, they were only on Fox meaning you'd have no clue who was playing = zero promotion. But the thing I was getting at was whether fans would flock to Saturday games...

Friday Night Football becoming a dud

With the number of night games today, does anyone think that perhaps Saturday afternoon might become a more attractive option than what it was in the past. I'd love to see a Saturday afternoon match. Even Parra vs Cows!

    steve mortimer ...

The Colin Loves of this world would have no chance... and probably wouldn't bother applying.

    steve mortimer ...

I think we need some sort of consultancy(?) group to run an application process with interviews etc and end up with a list of reccomended candidates. Then ARL and News could then agree if they feel these people are good enough to take over the running of the game for several years and set out...

Aust FTA Ad markets: Have a look at this....

Plus Wollongong. That's right genius, regional NSW pulls in more television revenue because it has larger regional centres! The same regional centres that are ignored when people try to justify why AFL should get more tv money, looking purely at the 5 capital cities. If Channel 9 stay...

What does it mean when people say News Ltd owns the game??

... and the ARL could have gone bust. Then News could have done as they pleased and fully owned the game rather than half own it and piss off in 2017. Though I do wish the ARL fought on... the point is we've clearly seen the news ltd agenda and as I said before, they do seem to hold the upper...

What does it mean when people say News Ltd owns the game??

Because News have the money. Just like St George Illawarra, where the board is 50-50... but the CEO is always from one side. There's alot more to it than just voting for things at board level. The daily operations of the NRL are run by News stooges, Gallop, Annesley etc. Where as any "ARL"...

    A Good Idea

Steelers did it during the SL days... desperate times call for... But definately a good idea at the big stadiums. The NRL and clubs should be bending over backwards to see regular crowds of 30,000 plus. Then it becomes a habbit. I liked Gould's idea of a totally free game(s) at ANZ. He...

What does it mean when people say News Ltd owns the game??

You're kidding aren't you??!! ARL = Australian Rugby League... what's their motives? Hmmm gee I wonder? News Ltd = 50% partners in the NRL partnership until 2017. Why are they in it? Explicitly explained way back during the compromise in '97 to recover $$$ they lost during the war (which...

time to get rid of 10 m. rule.

And to add to this, less interchange would help too.

time to get rid of 10 m. rule.

Exactly. Just before 1993, the "5m rule" was very close to 10 anyway. It was extended to about 7-8m, which was a good balance. For a while the 10m rule was good as the game was played in the same fashion, until the creative style eventually died out as dummy half and one up running became the...
