    Depends on the shape of the contracts of the returning players though. If they are abnormally back-ended (i.e. escalating at more than the rate of increase in the salary cap) then that flexibiity becomes a lot smaller.

    Why does that mean that we are paying him nothing? Unless he signs an extended contract at another club, he'll have a total salary cap cost of whatever his current 2025 contracted salary is. Unless another club is willing to pay his full contract amount, we'll cop the difference on our cap.

    Well, Penrith paid a sizeable chunk of his salary when he initially came to play for us. They figured they could use the bit that they didn't have to pay more usefully.

    I think he'd be ok (if true), and I'd sort have guessed this was a possibility when JR was appointed. They'd want to get the balance of big and small props right though.
