More Sydney clubs will merge within the next decade - Gould

They'll want us to play at the flash new stadium then. f**k that. Pity you can't rip up a stadium by the roots and move it.

More Sydney clubs will merge within the next decade - Gould

The strange thing about all this is that Gus didn't even mention clubs merging in his podcast, although he did predict when the comp shut down that the club landscape wouldn't be the same going forward. He's wrong a lot old Gussy, I wouldn't worry too much.

    Penrith's greatest ever coaches

Phil Gould will tell you himself that he took over a side ready to win a premiership. But I'd still agree with his place. The only change I'd make to be honest would be to put Hook ahead of Tim Sheens, who was learning the trade and would go onto much bigger things, but a single finals...

    Financial fragility of the game

One premiership doesn't cut it. You've got to be at the top for a decade or so, as Parramatta, Canterbury, Dragons and Rabbitohs all were at one time. Not winning the comp necessarily, but a serious threat of winning it. Panthers and Sharks will pick up lots more fans if they can achieve this.

    Financial fragility of the game

Winning games and premierships begets a bigger fanbase. There is no other way. How do you think Souths, Canterbury, Parra and St George got their supporter bases? It is not a guarantee though. You have to have enough people identify with your brand, which explains the comparatively limited...

I doubt it would have happened if they weren't looking for ways to save money.

    Favourite Panther wins

Xeureb played just 2 first grade games for the Magpies. He returned to the Panthers and was pretty much the first grade fullback in '93, playing 16 games, and 3 more in '94, but ended up in St Marys Metropolitan Cup team for several years after that. Phil Gould alone must've liked him, because...

That's over $4k a year for every NRL player. Not really to be sneezed at.

    Question on Peter V'landys

I know it's just a hypothetical, but that would be a foolish move indeed.

    Former Panthers in the NRL

You're right. Isaah Yeo he aint. But he could win you a game, even up to the 2017 final against Manly, his next to last game with us. He used to do it every game in the lower grades. I don't recall him doing it even once at the Titans though.

    Former Panthers in the NRL

He must be so torn. He'd have to be harboring hopes of resurrecting his career and fulfilling his undoubted potential as a footballer, and now his career is at the crossroads. Even if he has the shot he loses face, people would say money has overridden principles, and who knows the effect on his...

    Question on Peter V'landys

You have to wonder why there wasn't a SuperLeague war in AFL.

    Question on Peter V'landys

Doesn't seem to be a problem for AFL fans in Melbourne, where all 8 Melbourne teams are within 8km of the CBD.

    Question on Peter V'landys

The Swans have missed the finals only 3 times since their "excitement machine" days of 1990-95, when they failed to average 10,000 three years running. Another extended period of mediocrity will see the crowds drop accordingly. Their crowds fell by 10% last year when they missed the finals.

    News Coronavirus and NRL

The only thing I have against this change is that they've brought it in mid-season. If done properly, it will benefit the fitter sides over the lazier ones. This might have a profound effect on the competition table. I hope the refs will take into account whether a team is 2 behind or 6/7 behind...

    General Discussion Thread

No-one ever lies to the police. No-one ever rings in and says they're sick when they're not either. I'm more concerned with May, to be honest. There seems to be some suggestion he's been stitched up. The club wanted it over and you can't blame them for that but there's not a great deal of...
