Raiders scored 6 tries, had 2 of them scandalously taken off them for no other reason than the NRL script said a Penrith win.

Even though we may still have lost, how the bunker did not see vaughn impeded by the marker sticking out his arm to stop him and then merrin dropping his body i to him was gutting.

To be perfectly honest,I thought the goal was going to be knocked back.I got up to get a beer after the first replay when they showed Merrin impeding the Canberra players line....by the time I got back, the FG was given.I have to admit,we got away with that one although we wouldn't have known what happened after that.

I be sure of it,I'd like to see it again to note if the men in the bunker thought the Canberra player overplayed it by running into Merrin.

But like I said earlier on,you have a bluddy good side. They'll get in the 8 no doubt.

If you were a Panthers fan your list of referee f**k ups would look different. Your teams never lose on their own. It's always the refs fault.

The better team won despite trying to throw the game away.

Not sure the panthers were better.

They offloaded better.. but tbh there tries were 1 against the run of play mistake intercept type try, arguably caused by a bloke who seemed offside. 2 good try off an offload, 3 clever grubber kick try impossible to defend..

We had 3 tries only one kick try which tbh was way more skillful, similar offload try, and a shit defence from penrith try. We also had 3 or 4 no try calls of which arguably 1 or 2 could have gone our way.

We also caused a shitload more line breaks.

Penrith were certainly more enthusiastic than us, but imo i dont think that enthusiasm out did canberras superior talent.

Whoever updated the score in the thread title forgot the asterisk next to the 19.

Every team will cop and take dud calls throughout the season. Relax and move on. Penrith have lost 5 games in the last 10 minutes. Try living with that week to week.

He appears to have run into Merrin and then Segeyaro before going down. It looks like a dive to me (but as has been pointed out earlier, I am biased). There appears to be some contact with the tackled player, Latu, as well, both of them had their arms out. Wallace is at least 15 metres away. He couldn't have got anywhere close to affecting the shot. I think he was trying to milk a penalty and I expect that's what the bunker thought too. But I'll be very surprised if we do not hear some sort of clarification of this new rule in the coming week from Tony Archer.

I watched it again and the panthers clearly set up a wall at the play the ball. Its a rule of law not an interpretation of what Vaughan would have done or if he dived or whatever. The panthers players are actually touching too.

Clear wall play for mine. Cut and dry tbh.

"if two or more players form a wall (side by side) next to the play the ball and don’t allow the opportunity for a defending player to move directly towards the player in possession, the referee will penalise for obstruction".

ignore the terrible quality lol i could only find it online in one place so far

Edit

The screenshot breaks the frames. So i am linking it. Basically teams arent allowed to have a bunch of players standing at the play the ball blocking runners. Vaughan had every right not to have a couple of panthers players standing at the play the ball blocking his run. Its cut and dry. I mean just think about it. The "direct" path to Wallace wasnt around Merrin it was on the other side. The wall play did not allow Vaughan a direct run at Wallace. Even if Merrin didnt actually touch him its by the letter of the law a penalty.

Actually, having read that new rule and looked at the footage again, a wall is definitely formed. Also, Merrin isn't just passively standing there, he moves to his left and puts his shoulder into Vaughan.

So that's a wrong call from the video ref.

Also, the old "they've been doing that for years!" doesn't really apply when, as Pete has observed, a new rule was brought it specifically to stop it from happening.

Papalii was held up, moylans hand was under it. Was close but you could see it. Can't remember was it sent up try or not

Was sent up no try but a frame clearly showed the entire ball virtually flat over the line.
Unless Moylan has f**king dinner plates for hands there is no possible way the ball didn't touch the deck... I dont know what more the official needs to over turn that call

That said, we scored a try to draw the match anyways, so whilst I think that's a tough call, it doesn't bother me that much. And although it defies all logic, they'll defend that call on this evidence to over turn, although I suspect what people's definition of "conclusive" is depends entirely on what side of the call they stand on

There is no excuse for the FG being allowed to stand. The video ref ignoring a rule they brought in this year, when it's as clear cut as that was, when the on field referee sends it up posing that very question to him is a completely unforgivable error and ultimately decided the football game.
