18th club, whose next?

And to show for it the NRL has a successful expansion side (on the field, national ratings, attendance and memberships) in the 2nd largest city in the country. A city that culturally has absolutely no interest in any winter sports outside of AFL.
The rest of the competition was sacrificed to make the Storm solvent. The favouritism shown towards the Storm by the game's administration was unethical ans corrupt. It should never be allowed to happen again.

But Perth red has argued for hundreds of pages how travel isn't a factor...

Luckily they'll only have to travel for 10 Perth games, instead of 12

From that same article...

West Coast and Fremantle aren't the only professional sport teams in Western Australia — the Perth Wildcats, Perth Lynx, West Coast Fever, Perth Glory, Western Force, WA Cricket and Perth Heat also contend with interstate trips.

But the NRL, one of the 2 major sporting codes in this country, can't have a Perth team.

The minor sports (basketball, soccer, rugby union, cricket, baseball) can have a Perth team...but the NRL can't.

Makes sense.

Who's saying can't? We've already had one, pre NRL era, it went bankrupt, but that wouldn't be an issue now with the cost of travel factored into most leagues nowadays

Travel is a factor to consider in drawing up the fixture, "home game" allocation, injury and fitness management. Not a factor in discounting Perth outright

The issue I have with the bears is that their fans (and wbtiktok) have rushed in here as if they are the most successful team in history and that Perth should be honoured that they are being considered to be in a joint venture with them.

The truth is that they are the desperate ones with very little to offer Perth except a crummy looking logo and a cricket ground.

Look. It's a challenge, one we were told doesn't exist. I want a Perth team but these challenges do in fact exist.

Down the track, the code needs to bring in Adelaide. Personally the comp could go to 22, which was the same amount of teams spread across the ARL and SL in '97.

The key for Adelaide could be following a similar model to Perth when they come into the NRL. Using the Storm as an example may not be the best example for starting up a club in a non heartland area.

The Storm have been lucky to have Bellamy as coach to help establish the club in an AFL state. Perth may not be so fortunate with a head coach, so they need to get alot of things right off the field, like upgrade HBF Park, COE, pathways, ownership etc.

Yo
Do you know the bears history? They went bust because it rained then they couldn't make a joint venture work.

Only a fool would risk working with them again.
You forgot the Manly part, that’s why the Bears are probably being extremely hesitant on the licence with Perth.
I live on the Central Coast, in those days I commuted daily from Tuggerah Station to Sydney’s CBD and watched daily as the old Grahame Park Gosford slowly become Bluetongue Stadium currently Central Coast Stadium, we had never had rain like it, the wrong materials were built into the Stadiums roof, probably a Manly supporter, the Stadium just stayed there stagnant, near completion for months as it continued to rain and rain and rain.
Then the merger sorry take over happened and a few Bears ex staffers suddenly become very wealthy.
Underbelly Northern Eagles would make a great mini series for TV, lol.

You are conflating two issues.

That the distance (travel) will stop them recruiting, this article is talking about the actual impact of travel on the teams themselves.
