they have more revenue, we make higher profits
Thats only because they spend more, because they can. Whilst we buy a $20mill hotel they are buying a $500mill stadium! Neither code is there to make profit. They are there to make as much revenue as they can to reinvest back into the sport.

Why does the NRL sell out in the AFL states though? Because we're a flashy and better product.

It's like taking the NFL over Baseball, you watch the Perth double header in rd21 sell out
Wont come close. If it gets 25-30k that's a great result for the game.

I take it you're from Sydney?

What makes you think Western Australians and South Australians want to be represented by Sydney clubs that haven't been in the top flight for decades?

What do the Bears and Jets bring to the table?

Perth has numerous businessmen willing to fund a team of its own. Its population are notoriously parochial and have a distrust of "east coasters". The Bears have a list of crazy "non-negotiablea" that make them a Sydney club that will play a few games in Perth. That arrangement will not entice Western Australians to support the team.

The North Sydney Bears aren't flush with money, either.

The Jets have no money.

A race-based team playing out of numerous countries would struggle to attract players. The extra travel it would perform would put it on the back foot.
I'll be first in line for a Pirates membership. I wont be buying a NS Bears playing in Perth membership. That should tell you how likley that scenario is to work here.

They were gifted a stadium on the cheap

the nrl is generating its assets the hard way out of savings

they literally have 170 million in cash too

They're paying $200mill for it, the point stands
what? That makes no sense. NRL is in a good position to put some cash aside and buy some small investments. AFL is doing the same except they've also got the revenue to buy a major investment.

And AFL in 2021 was carrying $300mill cash in its asset base.

Like I said we are a long way behind and the gap isnt closing, its getting wider.

Cracking deal if you can get it! Point stands though, whilst we buy a $20mill asset they are buying a $500mill one, all be it for $200mill. Maybe if we had more revenue we could have offered to buy commbank for $200mill in a similar deal?

what point? The stark reality is in revenue and assets we are decades behind them. Will need a fastrack to 20 clubs and some very different TV negotiating for us to close that gap in the next 10 years.

Being gifted a 1 billion stadium for 200 million is hardly anything to brag about

if anything the opposite really

what? its awesome for them! Who wouldnt want to strike such a deal?
Wouldnt you think NRL had done an an amazing job if they managed to buy commbank in a few years time for $50mill or allianze for $100mill??

A look at what the NRl clubs generated in revenue from football operations in 2022. Given neither NZ2 or Perth will have pokies to draw on you'd be thinking they'd need to be hitting at least $17-20mill to be competitive.

That's because they invest their money on expansion and the grass roots.

When was the last time a regular season NRL game sold out a stadium?

Shark Park and Brookvale don't count as they're tiny.

That’s an interesting analogy. Honestly, prior to streaming I would have said AFL has the edge because game length means more ad revenue. However, ad-free streaming subscriptions are what’s going to drive popular culture over the next two decades and NRL is made for the screen.

Being gifted something isn’t a relflection of how well managed they are you flop

it’s a reflection of the preferential treatment afl receives

If commbank was sold cheap to the nrl there would be community uproar

anyway stadiums are terrible investments long term

the business case barely shows a positive rate of return and the afl will be stuck with a billion dollars fixing up marvel one day it’s hardly a new stadium

meanwhile the arl is investing in income producing commercial property

Lol, what a crock you are. If Vlandys announced nrl was getting allianz for $100mill you’d be jizzing in your pants at what a genius he is.
The land value alone means afl can never lose, let alone that the Vic govt just gave them $200mill to spend on it and the revenue is largely profit once the loan is cleared In A Few years.

They can deliver sweet deals that generates sht load of revenue, exactly what we should be doing! Vlandys can’t even get stadiums built let alone get good deals for the nrl.
