I actually really wanted a Perth team until I encountered Perth red.
As the rainbows and Unicorns were presented in this slam dunk expansion. It's mostly all bullshit.
It'll be fine if they get a club but it won't be great, it'll be a logistically and financial ball and chain for 30 years in exchange for a dot on the map.

There really is no point to a Perth team. It'll rely on expats for support, expats for players and produce non of their own. It'll be solely reliant on the NRL for money and offer nothing in return, no rivalries, no travelling fans.

It's just a dot on a map that for some reason suddenly makes it a national comp which makes no sense.

Yeah, I've definitely gone cold on the idea.

That’s good to know, thanks for sharing. We all feel much better informed now.

Same. Players are also going to ask the question before they sign so it’s perfectly valid to consider it.

In the hypothetical they’re playing all their home games in PNG, base the players in Sydney then. They’ll end up playing 10 games against NSW clubs so they’re only flying away 15 out of 25 games.

That’s more attractive for players than playing in Cairns, playing no home games there and then travelling 25 out of 25 rounds.

It feels to me the whole Cairns thing is to sell it as a 5th Qld club. Which is as you said, next to no one will convert.
Ah, now that actually makes some sense.

Rugby League has taken over Union in Australia.
Rugby league comes directly from getting people to come over from Union. Successfully!

Nowhere has Rugby League been able to get people over from AFL .

100% of the population are winnable in NZ ( they can still watch the 6 or so game the all blacks play 🙄)

80% of the population of Perth will never take to League.

Union fans = attainable.

AFL fans = Unattainable.

We have over 100 years of experience in this 🙄

How do you explain Melbourne Storm being embraced by fumbleball fans?

There's people in Melbourne who go watch the Storm before their AwFuL mob plays fumbleball at "The G".

If the government wants to help the Pasifika. How about 20 million a year into a Pasifika comp
Teams
1. Tonga
1 .Samoa
2. Fiji
I. cook islands
3. PNG

2.5 million grants for each club
1 million salary cap with 1.5 for operating costs ( flights ect)

The winner plays the winners of the Q cup and Nsw cup to determine the Pacific champion.

Even half of that money could be huge for the Digicel Cup and bring it roughly up to standard with QLD & NSW Cup eventually. Likewise it could help Silktails make the step up to NSW Cup with maybe juniors in Jersey Flegg, SG Ball and/or Harold Mathews. Tonga & Samoa could form a development link with an existing Australia club or the Warriors.

Unfortunately it doesn’t have the grand ribbon cutting ceremony of an NRL team so it won’t happen.

Pasifika Bears based in NS. makes sense to someone lol

Pacifika Bears being the outcome for team 18 is a real worry to be honest. Maybe I’m being paranoid but I cant rule it out.

How much money did they put in?
When is the new stadium being built?
They're covering travel?

O they aren't actually doing anything?
Talking? That's not like government to just talk, must be legit.

You’d be lucky to get 100 people from Cairns to switch from Cowboys or their current team to a PNG or Pacifika branded side based there even if they do play a few games in Cairns.
Spot on. I wouldn't. Country people have a well-developed BS detector for city crap.
