Cronulla have 50% developed 50% from other clubs in the first team squad and only one player out of thirty who came from a local jnr club.

Canberra 19 of 30 debuted for raiders ie 63% developed 37% developed by other clubs

panthers 18 of 26 home grown
How many of their juniors are at other clubs ?

dogs for example are half Penrith or will be soon

a star like katoa (kiwi) couldn’t get a start at Penrith do is now at the dolphins as their half back

clubs like the roosters who don’t have many in their area can look elsewhere as they have with (central coast is a good place for them that will pay off for them)

Not sure, like I said going through every squad and seeing where a player debuted would be the litmus test for who is really doing a good job in nrl production.. If I’m bored one day I’ll do it lol

just looking at current squads and whose debuted the most for their own team Storm are leading with 21 players Of the clubs I’ve looked at so far.

Storm 21
Raiders 19
Panthers 18
Sharks 17
Broncos 15
Cowboys 14
manly 14
Storm have lost a stack of juniors too to dolphins and cheese to roosters

with salary cap exemptions they keep more of their juniors

Yeh as I’ve been Going through Storm, broncos, panthers and wests stand out as teams that have a lot of their debut players at other clubs.

Depends where. A bid process will likely take 4-6months.

In Perth there is likely more than one bid option so worth opening it up, but may go with whoever wa govt backs as long as they tick the boxes.
nz2 feels like they’d have to go to open bid given the ltd public interest of bids to date
png/pasifika will need to be nrl led if that is genuinely anything more than a platitude to aus govt.

then there’s the bears lol
From what I can see there's a range of media exposure (and general visibility) from potential bidders - and the great unknown is whether there's anyone quietly weighing up a bid but not making the noise that the Bears or Pirates or rejected "Brisbane 2" bids are.

Maybe the NRL just needs to call for all bids to come out of the woodwork, maybe along with a statement that we want to go to 20 teams, and "Put up your business case as to why you should be one of the next 3"?

Alternatively if Perth is a lock for team 18, Then maybe put Perth up to bids like Brisbane 2 - then do an open call for bids from ANYWHERE for 19 & 20 ( and assess by their business cases).

Cronulla Penrith broncos Canberra dragons (Illawarra only) are the bigger clubs

parra have neglected their juniors for ages

cowboys and knights develop enough for themselves plus a surplus
Cronulla players are involved in the community during the summer months and hospitals and charities. That's why on a population basis 4.5% attend games on average under restricted numbers due to bldg development.Souths AFAIK do the same.

Mate that isn't true about Cronulla juniors in the top 30. Honestly Its easy to see that you are spinning things but please do not make up shit without due checking.
Cronulla juniors in their top 30:

Connor Tracey - De La C'bah
Kade Dykes - De La C'bah
Samuel Stonestreet - De La C'bah
Siteni Taukomo - Gymea
Blayke Brailey - Aquina Colts
Josh Finau - Engadine (development)

And there are a few around at other clubs too, off the top of my head:
Flanagan and Pele - Dogs
Salmon and Peachy - Panthers
Townsend - Cowboys
Brailey- Knights

That's the thing about PNG, who's going to bid for that franchise? Albo and pistol Pete are the only ones interested and both may be in their roles short term.

Its PROFESSIONAL rugby league, not amateur.

Fans and sponsors want to see teams winning, they really dont give a sht where johhny played when he was a kid. Neither do the clubs, nor should they.

Its the ARLC's job to increase participation. its the NRL clubs job to take the best youth from wherever they can scout them and turn them into quality first graders.

Sharks with one of the biggest jnr participation areas have just 1 player from a local jnr club. Ask their fans if they care. Ironically Melbourne have more local jnrs than Sharks do lol

Of the current first team squad Sharks have debuted 16 players, Tigers 15, Bulldogs 15, Storm 21. Thats the key stat we should reward.
So you don’t think a team like Penrith who have developed so many players locally should be rewarded ?, having a successful NRL team with so many home grown products certainly encourages children from that area to play rugby league.
Imagine if all clubs just went out and brought players here, there and everywhere, the game would eventually die.

Perth Pelican doesn't get it.

Kids want to be like their local heroes and aspire to be like them and play for the club their heroes play for. These kids then play the game and become supporters and sponsors. Some will be good enough to play first grade and beyond.

Try telling the kid that it doesn't matter who you play for. True, not every player will play for their junior club but that's the true pathway of players and fans.

Would those kids feel any stronger towards players that were local juniors though? Or just the best players at the club regardless of where they played under 11’s.

Every junior in Townsville wants to be JT, not so much Jake Clifford or Robert Lui.

I look at local NRL players like Nicho Hynes (Umina Bunnies/Woy Woy Roosters), the Saifiti bros (Terrigal Sharks/Entrance Tigers), Connor Watson (Kincumber Colts), Bradman Best (Woy Woy Roosters) and Scotty Drinkwater (Terrigal Sharks) when they are on the Central Coast, they make appearances at their junior clubs’ registration days, presentation days/nights and training sessions when they are able to make it.
When he was playing for Sharks/Roosters James Maloney came up to Ourimbah a few times, the local kids loved it.
Jesse Ramien (Sharks) played U15’s and U16’s with the Wyong Roos was even a touch judge at one of our games when he was at Sohier Park.

I'm not sure what you are driving at but I look at it this way. I support a club. The team may change players and be successful or poor but the club remains the same. I support that club because something about it identifies with me, it might be because its local, it might be the culture, it might be because my family supports it.

That's what Pelican Pete doesn't understand. He just wants a club in Perth so damn everything else. Including the team he supposedly supports now. Players don't originally aspire to just play first grade, they aspire to play for the club they support.

I'm sure I haven’t answered your question at all.

Say for example CC had an NRL club for the last 20 years, the local kids who are fans of that club would idolise the good players from that club more so than local juniors playing for other clubs.

That’s kind of what I’m getting at, most kids will support a club and idolise the best players from that club regardless if they’re a local junior or not. Seeing Thurston play for the Cowboys probably inspired more kids in NQ to play than any of the local juniors playing for them combined.

My mistake, I only looked at the jnr club of those that actually debuted in the nrl for the sharks. And some of the others dont have their jnr club listed, like Stonestreet.

Out of that list only Sorro was a local junior, and that is a bad miss by me.
you could add to your list Shaun Lane, Reece Robson and Luke Metcalfe

That’s not what’s happening. Look at the nrl debut numbers I’ve posted. Clubs are generally in the 45-60% range of home grown. No one is developing all their own squad and No one is buying whole squads from other clubs.

panthers have 18 players in their first team squad that debuted for panthers.
