This is how you do expansion to ensure the clubs successful on and off the field! Tassie AFL club 19 will get:

$700mill New stadium - Fed, State and Sport funded
$60mill CofE - State and sport funded
$12mill a year from state for 12 years
$33million to establish elite pathways sport funded
$93million to grow grassroots participation sport funded

We could only dream of having enough money and influence to be able to expand the NRl in that way!
We lol.

you and your imaginary friends?
I read it, made perfect sence, seems that whatever way the AFL blows, PR blows along with it, even if it means sounding like a hypocrite for wanting the same benefits that a new NRL perf team would garner.... which would never happen in this code, the dolphins were given under 2 years to scramble together a side, and luckily with hard work they did it, no hand outs, no new coe, no upgrades on a stadium, absolutely no concessions... theyve turned out to be the cinderella story for this year, due to the grind and grit of their performances, how do you think an tassie AFL team could perform when given all those leg ups, and sliver spoons.... im sure GWS Blacktown training facility is the envy of everyone in the area

I hope VLandys announces the 18th team's region to counter the Tassie news next week. Grab some of those headlines

You make my point nicely for me about the way the two codes go about the business of expansion.

Exactly, how unfair is it on the EXISTING franchises that carry the load of the new club... its why it will never happen in the NRL... of course you wouldn't give a shit, coz whatever benefits perf is your priority

Lol at seeing "hand outs" as a negative

Who the f**k cares
If a sport can afford to give an expansion club a leg up, and convince governments to do the same they bloody well should to ensure the new teams success

If only the NRL were able to do so today

Aren't you a supporter of the Cairns png pacific abomination? Talk about existing clubs having to carry the load of a struggling new club..

Govt yes i agree, if we can receive help to the sport via those means, yes no issue at all, but not by the governing body of the league, that totally unfair

unfair on who? AFL is investing in grassroots and elite pathways so the new club doesnt rip the other clubs rosters to shreds (cough dolphins cough).
Its chipping in for the stadium and CofE to show commitment to leverage the bulk of the funding from elsewhere. Very smart business.
They'll have to pay less central grant as the Govt is chipping in $12mill a year for 12 years. Good news for other clubs.

how is what they have managed to pull off unfair?

So the NRL shouldn't invest in stadiums and grassroots? Leave that solely to hopes and prayers and gambling money

Geez your hard work! Of course Id love it if the NRl had the clout to deliver a new perth rectangular stadium as well as all the other stuff Tassie will get. But it is highly unlikely it does, so we will have to put up with second best, such is rugba league.

AFL has played this a blinder. Got the govt's to build a new stadium, got the state to pay a big chunk of the start up costs of a new club, chipped in with significant funding of its own to ensure the game grows alongside the new club and to show the partner investors it is serious about making it successful.

I wonder if the NRL has any clue what it wants or what it should demand for a new club in a new area? I wonder if they've actually laid out a plan and expectations with the WA Govt? AFL went public to put the pressure on to get what it saw as necessary to make it work, NRL doesn't even know where team 18 should be.
Nah

if getting a new stadium is your benchmark then Perth doesn’t deserve a team until that’s met

Im talking about specifically giving salary cap concessions, not any of that other stuff, thats all fair game if you can get it
