The NRL are going to want the next team to be successful right from the beginning.
The nrl will be looking at 3 things. Potential crowd numbers, numbers on TV and financial support through sponsors etc.

The only club which has a guaranteed tick on all 3 of those areas is PNG. Their stadium would be full all year, both Australian government and png government backed and tv numbers both here and png would be successful.

I can’t see it being any other option than PNG

PNG'S population is 17m.

Eighty-five percent of Papuans don't have access to reliable electricity and don't have an income.

That means 14,450,000 out of 17,000,000 Papuans won't be able to watch a PNG team on TV or attend any of its games. They won't be able to buy merchandise.

Who is going to sponsor this team?

I bet this team gets corporate support up there with the dolphins and broncos

clubs don’t make big money from gates they are lucky to make 100k profit after rent on games

eg titans rent 1 million pa and it was 3 million

broncos rent 3 to 5 million pa

people are also forgetting the png govt will back them to the Hilt

If the PNG Gov was backing them to such a large degree then the proposition wouldn't depend on funding from the Aus Gov.

Whatever happens we have plenty of excellent options and we have high demand for teams 18-20. Bids are knocking down our doors. Check our major competitor. Last two teams were placed in regions of low/no demand. There were no bids. The fumblers put them there and are paying through the ear. Where next for the fumblers? Tassie. Why?. Because the idiot ruining our finances down here has thrown monumental amounts of taxpayers cash at them to place a team in a region they don’t want to be. Other options? Pretty bloody limited. Ffs fellas lighten up.

People on here mock AwFuL for the amount of money they've spent on GWS and Gold Coast. Next minute they're pushing for the ARLC to add a team from PNG that will cost as much as GWS and GC combined.

AwFuL were arrogant wankers who bit off more than they can chew. They're now stuck with two clubs that will need to be propped up for decades. Possibly forever. If we add a PNG team then we'll be stuck with a similar bill once the Aus Gov pulls funding.
