Er because prior ch9 were saying the same thing about brisbane2 as they are about brisbane3 lol.

So ch9 paid nothing for brisbane 2 but will for brisbane 3, hmmmmm.

did it actually lead to broncos being on fta less this season? There was conflicting media stories on that motivation at the time.
Wookie any stats on broncos fta covg this season compared to last?
Ch9 never said they would pay more for less Broncos games.

Broadcasters don't have an official vote, but they hold a lot of leverage over those who do. Dave Smith and Todd Greenberg were axed by the clubs after they got on the wrong side of the broadcasters.
The clubs are the only ones who can vote on expansion, broadcasters have zero influence, what expansion team did dave smith usher in? Or todd greenberg ffs...

The broadcasters provide most of the game's income. If they don't fund expansion then it won't happen. The RLPA will never agree to a pay cut just so Perth Red can have a team.

We're looking at around $20m per club. Add inflation and that number could be higher by 2028. So that's another $60m a year on top of what we're getting to fund a 20 team competiton. Foxtel and Ch9 are a business and won't pay for a team that doesn't help them generate extra advertising revenue.

Ch7 is out of the running for the next round of rights.

Ch10/Paramount are on the nose because they don't have a stake in the print media to promote the game. It's why AwFuL and Cricket Australia turned down the bids from Ch10/Paramount. A-League and Super Rugby have nosedived since parting ways with News Ltd.

Ch9 and Foxtel own most of the print media and will probably end up with the next round of broadcast rights. It's just a matter of how much they're willing to pay.

I'll add that News Ltd paid an extra $20m per annum to fund the Dolphins' entry into the NRL. If they refused to provide any money then there's a good chance we would still be at 16 teams.

Bit harsh on the bulldogs. 210 teams and 3500 players this year.
Clubs just want instant success, the Roosters have the Central Coast yet still get players from here, there and everywhere.
The Bulldogs have been the same the last three or so years, their cheapest player whom they got from the Bears Jacob Preston has been their best buy, not Cotric, Flanagan, Naden, Thompson, Burton, Addo Carr, Kikau, Mahoney, TPJ etc, etc.

Roosters don’t have the patience to develop players

eg Sam Walker who they stole from Brisbane and are now doing what they did to Kyle flanghan

they want instant success and use the cheque book rather than be patient (dom young for next year to add to Brandon smith)

Print media is a dying industry, anyone can have online news.
Almost like it was a good investment the nrl was making to have their own news media and then it wouldn't be a 'risk' to take the big money from ten.
But alas we gave it away for literally nothing.

Clubs get paid by broadcasters
Broadcast money gets divided to the clubs, its not the same thing, theres no figurehead that they upholden to, other than the arlc chairman or abdo
The networks provide the funds, if they themselves suggest an area for expansion, they need to sell it to the other 19 factions, who all have to swing that way, the broadcaster is there for content, NRL provides that, they might ask about preferences, purely to engage to see what would be either beneficial for both parties, and sell it to the voters that way, but they dont get a vote, so until everyone wraps their head around what the clubs prefer over the broadcaster, you're all gonna be circle jerking each other

Vlandys is the one making the picks

not clubs or the state bodies

clubs tried to stop expansion last time

They have no choice now, 17 is unsustainable, 18 is the next step to more content with a 9th game, they know it will make them richer no matter where the licence gets placed, the least affecting bid to the clubs wins, be it less drain on player pool, or distance from a encroaching near a nearby club, to just plain old distance like png or perth,
V'landys will outline whats in their best interests, he wont vote for them

The vote stands regardless what he wants, its basically a car salesman pitch, you can buy any of these 3 cars, all have different features what suits you all collectively?
He also dresses like a car salesman too hehe
